Evaluating the smelters identified by the Company’s in the EICC-GeSI Template to determine whether those facilities are considered “conflict free” by the EICC-GeSI CFS Program.
The EICC-GeSI CFS Program is a voluntary program whereby an independent third party evaluates smelter procurement activities to determine whether a smelter has sufficiently demonstrated that all materials processed by that smelter originated from sources that do not directly or indirectly finance or benefit armed groups in the Covered Countries.
We do, however, participate with industry associations in the copper and brass sector and other sectors in the following initiatives to develop conflict-free supply chains: the Electronics Industry Citizenship Coalition-Global e-Sustainability Initiative's Conflict Free Smelter (CFS) Program, the iTSCi and the Public Private Alliance for Responsible Minerals Trade (PPA).
This total represented one unique smelter which was verified as being certified as Conflict-Free under the CFS Program.
Validation under the CFS Program is voluntary, and the CFS Program makes no conclusions about the conflict status of sourcing by a smelter or refiner that is not on the Compliant Smelter and Refiner Lists.
The EICC and GeSI identify upstream participants in the supply chain and validate conflict-free smelters and refiners through the CFSI and associated CFS Program.
After independently verifying the information provided to us, we found that over half of all the smelters reported are currently in compliance with the CFS Program.
To the extent we have the opportunity to do so within our supply chain, including through flowing information upstream about the CFS Program and other relevant information, we will do so as we believe such actions can encourage support for these industry efforts.
We have relied on industry efforts, such as those by the EICC and GeSI, to influence smelters and refineries to complete audits and certification through the CFS Program.
However, the three smelters identified are certified smelters pursuant to the CFS Program.
