Transporting children in Western Europe for City Star tickets to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark or Belgium, children under 15 years of age (until the day preceding the day of their 15th birthday) accompanied by an adult (parent or grandparent) on ÖBB, DB, SBB/CFF, NS, DSB or SNCB lines are transported free of charge provided that at least one accompanying parent or grandparent pays for a City Star ticket for the entire route; • free transport of children accompanied by parents or grandparents is intended exclusively for family travel; a verbal declaration by the passenger that the accompanying child belongs to the family (son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter) is sufficient; neither on the train nor at the ticket counter is this verified; it is not possible to ticket groups in this manner; • a separate travel document must be issued for a child which refers to the adult passenger’s travel document; in this case, at most 5 persons can travel on a single ticket; a child from 6 to 15 years of age counts as one person; • reservations for a child (sleeper, couchette, seat) are paid in the full amount; in this case, a ticket with a 50% discount for a child is not required; • a child travelling alone pays 50% of the fare; no further discount is provided for groups of unaccompanied children (up to a maximum of 5).
