OUT-OF-CLASS ASSIGNMENTS Section 1. Definition
OUT-OF-CLASS ASSIGNMENT 1701 When, in the determination of the Department Head and with the approval by the Human Resources Director or designee, it is necessary to specifically assign in writing an employee all of the significant duties of a higher classification for eighty- one consecutive working hours, the employee so assigned shall be compensated at the minimum rate established for the higher call or five percent (5%) above the employee’s regular base rate of pay, whichever is greater, with pay effective upon the date of the change of assignment. Under no circumstances shall the employee receive an amount greater than the maximum step of the higher class. For purposes of this Article, the out-of-class workweek shall begin on the day the employee begins the duties of the higher classification, as specified in the written assignment. Teachers on Special Assignment Employees who are in the following categories are considered to be Teachers on Special Assignment (TOSA): Professional Development specialists, program specialists, consulting teachers, etc.
Release from Contract An employee under contract shall be released from the obligations of the contract upon request under the following conditions:
TEACHER ASSIGNMENT A. Under normal circumstances, the teachers will be notified by the Administration in writing of their programs for the coming school year, including the school(s) to which they will be assigned, the grades and/or subjects that they will teach, and any special or unusual classes that they will have by one (1) week before the close of school. Changes in such programs may be made after one (1) week before the close of school, if necessary, and the teachers involved in the change will be notified as soon as possible.
Summer Assignments Employees who worked less than a 12-month schedule at the 10 time of their work-related accident will not be guaranteed summer employment while 11 participating in the Alternate Duty Program.
Teacher Assignments 6.10.1 Non-probationary teachers will be given the opportunity to indicate in writing their preference as to subject and grade assignment for the next school year. A teacher who desires a change of assignment within a school shall submit a Preference Form to the School Director. The preference will be considered when making assignments.
Teaching Assignments No employee shall be assigned to teach in a grade level and/or subject area not within the scope of his/her teaching certificate, except where a position within his/her certification is unavailable or when mutually agreed to by the affected employee and principal, or when determined necessary by the principal. Employees assigned to positions outside the scope of their certificates shall be assigned as soon as possible to positions for which they hold certification.
Shift Assignments When an opening occurs in a shift assignment in an appropriate work group at a location, preference shall be given to employees within the classification who possess the training, ability and any required special qualifications to perform the work required, on the basis of seniority. In the event that no employee desires a shift assignment, employees shall be selected in order of inverse seniority. This provision shall not apply to necessary training assignments. This provision shall not in itself alter the practice of rotating shifts where such practice presently exists. No employee who has a regular shift assignment on the effective date of the Agreement shall be involuntarily displaced from such shift assignment as a result of this Article.
Teaching Assignment For teaching faculty, the teaching assignment will be one or a combination of programs, courses, or student originated studies offerings (all of which are collectively referred to as “academic offerings” below). For full-time faculty the normal teaching assignment will be a program. For part-time faculty the normal assignment is either a program and/or course(s), depending on the terms of their contract. In addition, faculty may support individual learning contracts.
