Salaries. 25.01 Basic hourly salary scales and increments as set out in the Salary Appendix shall be applicable to all Employees covered by this Collective Agreement effective on the dates specified therein. (ii) In the case of a part-time or casual Employee, on the completion of 1968.75 hours worked inclusive of: leaves of absence for union business, other leaves of absence not exceeding one (1) month, periods of sick leave with pay, all vacation hours taken or paid in lieu thereof, to the maximum increment granted full-time Employees.

(bB) Upon becoming registered by the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta, Alberta (CARNA) a Temporary Permit Holder (TPH):
(ia) if newly graduated from an approved School of Nursing in Alberta having completed a basic nursing education program approved by the Nursing Education Program Approval Board (NEPAB), or one who has satisfied the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta University Co-ordinating Council that the Employee has completed a training program substantially equivalent to a NEPAB-approved the basic nursing education program offered by an approved School of Nursing in Alberta, shall be paid the rate applicable to a Registered Nurse, retroactive to the date of successfully writing the Employee’s course registration - examination or the Employee’s most recent date of employment, whichever is later; and
(iib) in all other cases, a Temporary Permit Holder who has applied for issuance of an annual certificate pursuant to the Health Professions Act and RegulationsNursing Profession Act, and who subsequently qualifies to have her or his name entered into the register of registered nurses, shall be paid the rate applicable to a Registered Nurse. Such payment will be , retroactive to the date date:
(i) of issuance of the temporary permit was issued unless permit; or
(ii) of successfully writing her or his nurse registration examination if such is required; or
(iii) the Employee had to write the examination more than onceEmployee’s most recent date of employment, in which case it will only be retroactive to the date the examination was successfully writtenwhichever is later.
25.03 Where the Employer establishes a new classification within the scope of this Collective Agreement or where a position is placed within the bargaining unit by a decision of the Labour Relations Board, the rates of pay applicable shall be subject to negotiation between the parties. Where mutual agreement is not obtained concerning the rates of pay, this matter shall be referred to Arbitration as provided within this Collective Agreement. An Arbitration Board in such a case shall have the power to establish a rate of pay for the classification in question. The basic hourly salary scales for the classification shall be retroactive to the date the new classification was implemented.
25.04 Where the Employer has in place a system of depositing pay cheques in a bank on behalf of Employees, all Employees shall participate, providing that the deposit shall be made to in the financial institution account of the Employee’s choice no later than 0800 noon on the designated pay day.
25.05 Except where payroll cheques or slips are distributed directly to the Employee by the payroll office, the Employer shall issue such cheques or slips in a manner which holds private information on such documents.
25.06 (a) The Employee’s payroll cheque stub shall display the purpose and amount of each item of income to the extent that the Employer’s accounting system is capable. The Employee’s payroll cheque stub shall display the purpose and amount of each deduction.
25.07 An Employee may request and (b) Employees shall be given information related to receive notification of sick leaveleave credits, vacationvacation credits, overtime accumulation accumulation, and days in lieu of Named Holidays. The Employer will provide this information within five working days, excluding weekends monthly and Named Holidaysupon request. The format of this information may vary depending on the Employer’s information accounting system.
25.07 If the payroll cheque is incorrect, the Employer will endeavour to replace within three (3) business days.

(a) Employees are paid bi-weekly. Payment of wages is by cheque or by direct deposit and pay information shall remain private. An Employee is required to notify the Employer of any errors on a cheque or direct deposit record as soon as possible.
(b) Subject to Article 27.01, during the first year of employment, Employees are required to work one thousand nine hundred and twenty point seven five (1920.75) regular hours of work in order to advance to the next increment step on the pay scale and a further one thousand seven hundred and fifty six (1756) regular hours of work for each next increment. On a regular basis the Employer shall provide Employees with the cumulative hours worked.
(c) The Employee’s payroll cheque stub shall display the purpose and amount of each item of income and the amount of each deduction.

(ii) in all other cases, a nurse who is not registered on the her or his date of employment and who subsequently is successful in obtaining registration shall be paid the rate applicable to a Registered Psychiatric of Licensed Practical Nurse, retroactive to the date of filing proof of application for Alberta Registration with the Employer or the Employee’s most recent date of employment, whichever is later.

(i) if within twelve (12) weeks of successfully writing the examination applies for and is granted registration, shall be paid the rate applicable to a Registered Nurse, retroactive to the date of successfully writing the Employee’s course registration examination or the Employee’s most recent date of employment, whichever is later; or
(ii) if beyond the twelve (12) week timeline in (i) above, then from the date that proof of registration is provided, shall be paid the rate applicable to a Registered Nurse.

(ii) in all other cases, a Temporary Permit Holder who has applied for issuance of an annual certificate pursuant to the Health Professions Act and Regulations, Regulations and who subsequently qualifies to have her or his name entered into the register of registered nurses, shall be paid the rate applicable to for a Registered Nurse. Such payment will be retroactive to the date the temporary permit was issued unless the Employee had to write the examination more than once, in which case it will only be retroactive to the date the examination was successfully written.
25.03 (iii) Provisions of Article 23.02(a)(i) and (ii) shall also apply to Employees who are registered as Psychiatric Nurses in Alberta.

(ii) if beyond the twelve (12) week timeline in (i) above, then from the date that proof of registration is provided, shall be paid the rate applicable to a Registered Nurse.
(b) A Temporary Restricted Permit Holder who qualifies for a Temporary Permit pursuant to the Health Professions Act, and Regulations and who subsequently qualifies to have her or his name entered into the register of Registered Nurses:
(i) if within twelve (12) weeks of successfully writing the examination applies for and is granted registration, shall be paid the rate applicable to a Registered Nurse, retroactive to the date of successfully writing the Employee's course registration examination or the Employee's most recent date of employment, whichever is later; or
(ii) if beyond the twelve (12) week timeline in (i) above, then from the date that proof of registration is provided, shall be paid the rate applicable to a Registered Nurse.
(c) in all other cases, a Temporary Permit Holder who has applied for issuance of an annual certificate pursuant to the Health Professions Act and RegulationsNursing Profession Act, and who subsequently qualifies to have her or his name entered into the register of registered nurses,

25.04 Where the Employer has in place a system of depositing pay cheques in a bank on behalf of Employees, all Employees shall participate, providing that the deposit shall be made to in the financial institution account of the Employee’s choice no later than 0800 noon on the designated pay day.
25.05 Except where payroll cheques or slips are distributed directly to the Employee by the payroll office, the Employer shall issue such cheques or slips in a manner which holds private information on such documents.
25.06 (a) The Employee’s payroll cheque stub shall display the purpose and amount of each item of income to the extent that the Employer’s accounting system is capable. The Employee’s payroll cheque stub shall display the purpose and amount of each deduction.
25.07 An Employee may request (b) Employees shall receive notification of sick leave credits and shall be given information related to sick leavevacation credits, vacation, overtime accumulation and days in lieu of Named Holidays. The Employer will provide this information within five working days, excluding weekends and Named Holidaysupon request. The format of this information may vary depending on the Employer’s information accounting system.
25.07 Employer caused Payroll errors greater than $50.00 shall be rectified by the Employer as promptly as possible by direct deposit, no later than two business days from the date the Employer received notification of the error.
