Resignation for Childcare. An employee who resigns to take care of a pre-school child may apply to re-enter Police and will be accepted in preference to new applicants if they meet entry requirements and their absence did not exceed four years from resignation date, or five years from ceasing duty to go on parental leave. The period of absence interrupts service and will not count as service for purposes of leave, or any other entitlement. An applicant seeking to return to Police should give at least 3 months’ notice and must produce a birth certificate for the pre school child and sign a statutory declaration to the effect that absence has been due to the care of a pre school child and paid employment has not been entered into for more than 15 hours a week or other income received during absence. Where paid employment was for substantially more than 15 hours per week, or other income earned in excess of a weekly average equivalent to 15 hours at the salary rate of ($34,447) ($35,481) ($36,545) eligibility for re entry under these provisions is at Police’s discretion. Where an applicant meets all the provisions above and, at time of application has the necessary skills to competently fill an available vacancy being substantially the same in character and at the same or lower remuneration and band as the position previously held, then the applicant is to be appointed in preference to any other applicant for the position.
