RACEWAYS Clause Samples

The RACEWAYS clause defines the requirements and standards for the installation and use of raceways, which are enclosed channels designed to protect and route electrical wiring. Typically, this clause specifies acceptable materials, sizing, installation methods, and compliance with relevant codes or regulations for raceways such as conduits or cable trays. By setting clear guidelines, the clause ensures the safe, organized, and code-compliant management of electrical wiring, reducing risks of damage, fire, or code violations.
RACEWAYS a. Conduit shall be rigid galvanized steel (RGS), electrical metallic tubing (EMT), metal clad (MC) cable, polyvinyl, chloride (PVC), and flexible or liquid tight flexible conduit. b. Type ‘AC’ and ‘NM’ cable are not acceptable. c. Support per seismic zone 4 requirements.
RACEWAYS. Conduit shall be rigid galvanized steel(RGS), electrical metallic tubing (EMT), metal dad (MC) cable, polyvinyl, chloride (PVC), and flexible or liquid tight flexible conduit.
RACEWAYS. (i) Provide approved fire-proof sealant around all conduit penetrations of floor slabs and fire walls. (ii) Install in all empty conduit systems with suitable nylon pullstring and blank off to prevent entrance of foreign matter until conductors are installed. (iii) At motor connections, flexible connections, or connections subject to vibration, use flexible galvanized conduit with PVC outer jacket with grounding conductor, not to exceed 18" total length. (iv) Conduit shall not be smaller than 1/2" trade size and must be sized to accept conductors indicated.
RACEWAYS. A. All exposed conduit and fittings shall be galvanized rigid metal conduit conforming to Article 346 of the National Electrical Code. Finish coat shall be uniform with chromate for added protection. Connections between junction boxes and equipment may be made with liquid tight flexible metal conduit with thermoplastic overcoat, conforming to Article 351 of the National Electrical Code. A 12-inch minimum slack loop shall be provided in all flexible metal conduit runs. B. Buried conduit shall be rigid nonmetallic PVC, Schedule 40 and conforming to Article 347 of the National Electrical Code. Long radius buried ▇▇▇▇ shall be galvanized rigid metal conduit conforming to Article 346. C. Foam sealant shall be used around ungrouted conduit penetrations to maintain the integrity of fire ratings and to prevent passage of smoke, fire, toxic gas or water. The seal shall be maintained before, during and after fire. Foam sealant shall be Chase Technology Corp. No. CTC PR-855 or approved equal. D. Interior exposed conduit shall be installed parallel or at right angles to vault lines, tight to finished surfaces and neatly offset into boxes. Conduits or other electrical equipment shall not be installed in obvious passages, doorways, scuttles or crawl spaces which would impede or block the area passages intended usage. Conduit shall be securely mounted to the vault wall with rigid galvanized conduit hangers spaced not farther than 36 inches with not less than two straps per straight run of conduit over 24 inches in length. Perforated strap hangers or twisted wire attachments are not acceptable. Conduits shall not be installed on the surface of the vault exterior. E. Code-sized pull boxes shall be installed, where required, to restrict maximum bends in a run of conduit to 270 degrees. Conduit sizes shall be as prescribed by the National Electrical Code for the number and diameter of conductors inside. F. Shielded conductors carrying isolated 4-20 mA, 24 VDC signals to equipment for control shall be installed in their own conduits, separate from 120 VAC power and control conductors, to prevent electrical interference with the signals.
RACEWAYS. 1. Conduit shall be rigid galvanized steel (RGS), electrical metallic tubing (EMT), metal clad (MC) cable, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and flexible or liquid tight flexible conduit; installation shall be per NEC requirements. 2. Type “AC” and “NM” cable are not acceptable. 3. Support per seismic zone 4 requirements. 4. All raceways shall be concealed. 5. Home runs from panel shall be in EMT conduit.
RACEWAYS. (a) Basic Requirements:
RACEWAYS. The Utility and Generator feeders shall utilize cable bus systems. The major raceways extending from the new Electrical Room shall utilize cable trays.
RACEWAYS. A. Electric metallic tubing (EMT) shall be electrogalvanized or sheradized steel. EMT shall be used in all exposed areas which are not subject to physical abuse. Couplings and connectors for electrical metallic tubing shall be galvanized steel set-screw. Tubing shall be as manufactured by ▇▇▇▇ National, Allied Tube and Conduit Corp., Wheatland Tube Company, or equal. B. Liquid-tight flexible metal conduit shall be galvanized steel with separate copper grounding conductor. The outer jacket shall be an extruded, moisture and oil proof, covering of polyvinyl chloride. Liquid-tight flexible metal conduit shall be used for the final connections to all roof top equipment and in all areas where motors and other equipment are subject to an oil or moisture type environment. Liquid-tight flexible metal conduit shall be manufactured by American Flexible Conduit, Eastern Wiring Conduit, International Metal Hose Company, or equal. C. Galvanized Rigid Steel Conduit (GRC) shall be made of zinc coated steel. GRC conduit shall be installed as shown on the Drawings, as specified, and in all areas subject to physical abuse. D. Steel support rods or support bolts for conduits shall be 1/8-inch diameter for each inch or fraction thereof of diameter of conduit size, but no rod or bolt shall be less than 1/4-inch in diameter. E. For 20 ampere branch circuit wiring furnish and install the number of individual conduits required to limit the number of conductors in each conduit to a number which will not require derating to a value below 100 percent of the current rating of the circuit overcurrent protective device.
RACEWAYS. Remove abandoned raceways and boxes when exposed or when they interfere with new work of any trades, unless indicated or approved otherwise. When electrical materials are removed, patch and finish building surfaces to match existing finishes. If ceilings are exposed at any time during construction then abandoned raceways must be removed.
