Professional Development Education Clause Samples
The Professional Development Education clause establishes requirements and provisions for ongoing training and educational opportunities for employees or contractors. Typically, this clause outlines the types of professional development activities that are eligible, such as workshops, seminars, or courses, and may specify whether costs are covered by the employer or require prior approval. Its core function is to ensure that personnel maintain or enhance their skills and knowledge, thereby supporting organizational growth and adapting to industry changes.
Professional Development Education. The Employer agrees to provide a professional development program to assist and encourage faculty to realize their professional potential. To achieve this purpose the program must be designed to meet the unique needs of the individual as well as the total needs of the faculty, and thus the program must include a variety of activities worked out in cooperation with the faculty.
7.1.1 It shall be the responsibility of Skagit Valley College to provide a professional development educational program within budgetary constraint. The Vice President for Instruction, working with individuals and appropriate committees, shall be responsible for planning and administering the program.
Professional Development Education. Section 1 The employer and union recognize the value of training and skills upgrading. Where the employer and an employee mutually agree that a training course or seminar is of benefit to both, the employer shall bear the costs of tuition, supplies and reasonable related expenses, but no additional wage compensation shall be payable.
Section 2 The employer agrees, where practical and beneficial to the Federation, to provide funding for education, training and staff development.

Where the Federation and an employee mutually agree that a training course, conference or similar event is of benefit to both, the Federation shall bear the costs of tuition, supplies and reasonable related expenses, but no additional wage compensation shall be payable.

Section 3 The Federation will provide reasonable orientation, familiarization, and training if necessary, so employees can stay up-to-date and current in their jobs.
Section 4 Employment of employees on Profession Development/Education will be considered as continuous time at work.
Section 5 In addition to professional development or education for an employee referenced above, the Employer will establish a Personal Education and Development Fund (PEDF).
a) The Employer will contribute three hundred and fifty ($350.00) dollars per member into the fund on an annual basis. Unused funds will not be carried forward into subsequent years.
b) The Employer and Union will form a joint committee to review applications and release funding. The committee will be compromised of two (2) Union members and one (1) employer member.
c) The Parties will meet to develop an agreed upon terms of reference.

Professional Development Education. TRAINING LEAVE Professional development is a way of valuing staff and is essential to the maintenance and development of a quality and efficient service. Staff maintaining and developing their roles is critical to the delivery of effective client care. The objective of this clause is to ensure that the investment in training and development is commensurate with other groups similar to allied, public health and technical groups employed by the DHB, that existing provisions are protected, and that PSA members are not disadvantaged compared to other employees whose entitlements continue during times of fiscal restraint.
