Procedures and Duration Clause Samples

Procedures and Duration. Leaves of absence without pay may be granted for up to one (1) year to tenured employees who have rendered satisfactory service to the District and who desire to return to employment in a similar capacity at the time mutually consistent with the needs of the District as determined by the Board. Written request for leaves of absence without pay should be made at least three (3) months before the leave is desired, subject to approval by the Board. Employees will not advance on the salary schedule while on any approved leave of absence without pay unless working at least one hundred (100) days in any given school year in which a leave is effective. Teachers will not be granted a leave of absence to teach in another District or seek other employment. The contractual continued service status of a Teacher is not affected because of absence while in the military service of the United States.

Procedures and Duration. An Employee who is requesting a leave without pay shall include the reason for leave along with the beginning and ending dates of said leave. An Employee returning from a leave of absence without pay shall be reinstated to a position that he/she is qualified to hold. An Employee would maintain but not add to his/her seniority status during the leave. An Employee returning to employment after a leave without pay will be credited with the same sick leave as was accumulated at the commencement of the leave. Employees may elect to continue membership in the District’s hospital and medical insurance, life insurance, and dental plans at his/her own expense through COBRA.
