Illness in the Family. Where no one at home other than the employee can provide for the needs during illness of an immediate member of her family, an employee shall be entitled after notifying her supervisor, to use a maximum of five (5) accumulated sick leave days per illness to care for the member of the family who is ill.

Illness in the Family. In the case of illness of an immediate family member permanently residing in the employee's household or with whom the employee permanently resides where no one at home, other than the employee, can provide for the needs of the ill person, or in the case of a non-custodial child, the employee shall be entitled, after notifying their supervisor, to use accumulated sick leave for this purpose, to a maximum of 10 days per year provided a minimum of 12 days is available each year for personal sick leave only (see Clause 52.2).

Illness in the Family. In the event that a nurse should have a serious illness in the family, the following principles shall apply: To qualify for paid sick (employee illness-STD), in the event of illness to a nurse’s spouse/common law, including same sex, child, or parent, the nature and circumstances of the illness should be sufficiently serious to threaten the health of the nurse, and, where an application for paid sick leave is made, the Director/Supervisor shall request, and the nurse shall provide a note from his/her physician which certifies that the above-noted requirements have been met. The nurse shall ensure that such a note indicates that the nurse was unfit to perform his/her duties, because of the level of stress and anxiety experienced, especially if the illness to the family member requires radical treatment or is life-threatening.
Illness in the Family. An employee may use up to seven (7) sick leave days in a calendar year (January 1 to December 31) in the event of a crisis involving the care of a sick child, dependent grandchild, elderly parent or spouse when no alternative care is available.
