Health and Labor. Sri Lanka will ensure that civil and electrical work contracts under the Investment Program will follow all applicable labor laws and regulations, and that contractors (a) employ, to the extent possible, women and local people, including disadvantaged people, living in the vicinity of the relevant project components; (b) provide equal pay to men and women for work of equal type; (c) provide safe working conditions for male and female workers; (d) do not employ child labor; and (e) carry out HIV/AIDS awareness programs for laborers and disseminate information at worksites on risks of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS for construction workers; and that the above will be monitored to ensure compliance by the contractors.
