Common use of Furlough Clause in Contracts

Furlough. A furlough is the placement of an employee in a temporary leave without pay status for a specified number of hours within a specified time frame. Furloughs may be implemented by reducing hours for every week of work, or by reducing the number of days worked in a specified week, month or year. Once the decision is made to require a furlough, FHSU Administration and FHSU-AAUP must meet to discuss how the furloughs for teaching faculty for both on-campus and Virtual College courses will be implemented. A furlough/pay reduction action will affect all teaching faculty to the same extent.
