Common use of Family Illness Absence Clause in Contracts

Family Illness Absence. Permanent employees shall be allowed up to five (5) days leave per year with pay (not cumulative and not deducted from accumulated personal illness days) in case of serious illness, major surgery, or serious accident involving an immediate member of their family when their presence is necessary. The employee shall report the name of the family member, his relationship to the employee, the nature of the illness, and why his presence was necessary. The term "immediate family" shall be defined as: wife, husband, mother, father, sister, brother, son, daughter, grandparent, grandchild, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in- law, or any other blood relative permanently residing in the home of the employee. In the event emergency conditions arise, an extension of family illness leave may be granted without pay by the Personnel Department. In all cases of approved extension, a written application shall be submitted before return stating clearly all details regarding the emergency.
