EDUCATIONAL PAY. Section 1: The Employer encourages all bargaining unit members to further their education related to law enforcement. The Employer will reimburse members of the bargaining unit up to $600 for tuition and fees (limited to one (1) class per officer per semester/quarter) for education received at an institution of higher education in the following manner: 100% ……………………………………………… “A” 80% ……………………………………………… “B” 50% ……………………………………………… “C”
1) Request for attendance must be in writing to the Chief of Police no later than thirty (30) days prior to the start of the class.
2) Upon successful completion of the course, the employee shall present to the Employer the employee’s tuition statement and the course grade received.
3) To be eligible to attend, the employee must be formally accepted by the university and meet its requirements and must have completed two (2) years as a full-time officer with the City of Cortland Police Department.
4) Class attendance shall be on the employee’s time and the Employer shall not pay for any time spent in class attendance.
Section 2: The Employer shall complete the reimbursements to the employee within thirty (30) days of the employee’s presentation of documentation.
Section 3: Any bargaining unit member who has successfully completed and received an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement (Criminal Justice) or a related field shall receive additional pay in the amount of twenty-five dollars ($25) per month.
Section 4: Any bargaining unit member who has successfully completed and received a Bachelors Degree in Law Enforcement (Criminal Justice) or a related field shall receive additional pay in the amount of forty-five dollars ($45) per month.
Section 5: Any bargaining unit member who has successfully completed and received a Master’s Degree in Law Enforcement (Criminal Justice) or a related field shall receive additional pay in the amount of sixty-five dollars (65) per month.
Section 6: Any bargaining unit member who has successfully completed 900 hours of police related and documented training shall receive additional pay in the amount of twenty-five ($25) per month.
Section 7: Bargaining unit members will be compensated for only the highest training or educational degree rating acquired.
EDUCATIONAL PAY. A. All unit employees may qualify for a two and one-half percent (2½%) salary increase above their position classified range upon receipt of a two-year degree, in a field relative to their police job classification, from an accredited junior college or college or Intermediate P.O.S.T. Certificate, upon approval of the Police Chief and City Manager.
B. All unit employees may qualify for a five percent (5%) salary increase above their position classified range upon receipt of a four-year degree, in a field relative to their police job classification, from an accredited college or Advanced P.O.S.T. Certificate, upon approval of the Police Chief and City Manager.
EDUCATIONAL PAY. A. All unit employees may qualify for advancement of one salary range above their position classified range upon receipt of an Associated Arts Degree or Associated Science Degree, from an accredited junior college, or upon earning a special license or certificate, deemed to be equivalent to an AA/AS degree and is related to the performance of the employee’s duties and/or assignment, upon approval by the Fire Chief. For purposes of completion of certificated courses related to an employee’s duties and/or assignment equivalency (including those programs resulting in a special license or certificate) or an aggregate of the same which equals or exceeds 720 instructional hours, will be deemed to be equivalent to an AA degree.
B. Unit employees who possess licenses or certificates as specified in Section A of this Article, totaling less than 720 hours and more than 300 hours of instruction, shall qualify for an advancement in salary of $20 per pay period upon approval of the Fire Chief.
C. All unit employees may qualify for advancement of two salary ranges above their position classified range upon receipt of a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts Degree in a field relative to their job classification, from an accredited college, upon approval of the Fire Chief.
EDUCATIONAL PAY. Beginning January 1, 2017, employees covered and defined herein under this Collective Bargaining Agreement who currently hold a valid Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, and/or Master’s Degree which was obtained from an accredited college or university within a program that is directly related to the employee’s current employment position shall be paid the following amounts at the first pay-period of December: Associate’s Degree $400.00 Bachelor’s Degree $700.00 Master’s Degree $1000.00 To receive payment, the degree must be directly related to the employee’s current employment position, and obtained previous to employment or without use of the City’s Tuition Reimbursement Program. Employees shall be paid only for the highest qualifying degree held.
EDUCATIONAL PAY. A. The Educational Pay Program is intended to promote the improvement of employee efficiency and the advancement of employees to positions of higher skills.
B. Employees may qualify for advancement of one salary range above their position classified range upon receipt of an Associated Arts Degree, in a field relative to their job classification, from an accredited junior college, or upon earning a special license or certificate, deemed to be equivalent to an AA degree and is related to the performance of the employee’s duties and/or assignment, upon recommendation of the Department Director and approval by the City Manager. For purposes of completion of certificated courses related to an employee’s duties and/or assignment equivalency (including those programs resulting in a special license or certificate), or an aggregate of the same which equals or exceeds 720 instructional hours, will be deemed to be equivalent to an AA degree. Any employee who is receiving educational pay for any license or certificate as of July 1, 1999, will continue to receive such pay.
C. Employees who possess licenses or certificates as specified in Section B of this Article, totaling less than 720 hours and more than 300 hours, shall qualify for an advancement in salary of $20 per pay period upon recommendation of the Department Director and approval by the City Manager.
D. Employees may qualify for advancement of two salary ranges above their position classified range upon receipt of a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts Degree in a field relative to their job classification, from an accredited college, upon recommendation of the Department Director and approval of the City Manager.
EDUCATIONAL PAY. It shall be the policy of the Department that during the term of this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), all police sergeants and lieutenants who have received or obtains a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university shall receive an annual salary as reflected in Addendum B, Grade 758 and 759 of this Memorandum of Understanding.
EDUCATIONAL PAY. A. The City agrees to pay to each employee tuition reimbursement for college classes approved by the City. Reimbursement will be paid at the prevailing Public College rates for tuition, books and fees, depending upon the grade achieved (A or B or Pass=100%; C=50%; D or F or Fail=0%). The class must be completed and receipts presented. The class must be in a job related field as determined by the City.
B. Employees hired after January 1, 1992 will only be eligible for tuition reimbursement as provided for in Sect. 39.9 A-2.
C. Any employee hired prior to January 1, 1992 who elects Sect. 39.9 A-2 will forever forfeit the incentive pay provided for in Sect. 39.9 A-1.
D. The tuition reimbursement program fund will be limited to $25,000 annually for bargaining unit employees and shall be paid in full or pro-rata depending upon bargaining unit participation. Requests for reimbursement should be submitted by June 30 of each year for the previous academic year. In those years when funding is inadequate to meet the total requests, bargaining unit employees shall be allocated funds on an equal pro-rata basis.
E. It is understood that this program and the fund for payment are separate and independent of any other program or fund for tuition reimbursement offered or available to any other City employee or group of employees.
EDUCATIONAL PAY. Possession of an AA Degree or P.O.S.T. Intermediate Certificate shall entitle a member of the bargaining unit to an additional two and one-half percent (2.5%) of base salary rate + (if applicable) special assignment pay. Possession of a BS/BA Degree or P.O.S.T Advanced Certificate shall entitle a member of the bargaining unit to an additional five percent (5%) of base salary rate + (if applicable) special assignment pay. Possession of a Master’s Degree shall entitle a member of the bargaining group to an additional seven and one-half percent (7.5%) of base salary rate + (if applicable) special assignment pay.
