Comparative Study. AIDS Prevention and Care in Europe The second research project was implemented in collaboration with the Academic Department of GU Medicine, ▇▇▇'s, King's and St ▇▇▇▇▇▇’ Medical School in London (UK). The objectives of this project were to investigate the most relevant developments in the field of migration and HIV/AIDS in Europe, to evaluate in which way the European Project AIDS & Mobility has contributed to appropriate responses, and to formulate recommendations for the future. To meet these objectives, a variety of methods were applied: epidemiological and literature reviews, questionnaires for the National Focal Points of AIDS & Mobility and for other network members, interviews with key stakeholders and a focus group discussion. The following persons were part of the research team: ➢ co-ordination: Ms ▇▇ ▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇, Academic Department of GU Medicine, ▇▇▇'s, King's and St ▇▇▇▇▇▇’ Medical School, London ➢ researchers: Ms ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇ the Academic Department of GU Medicine, ▇▇▇'s, King's and St ▇▇▇▇▇▇’ Medical School, London Ms Dr ▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇, Spanish National Plan on AIDS, Madrid ➢ advice: Mr Dr ▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇, Department of Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Royal Free and University College Medical School, London ➢ supervision: ▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, European Project AIDS & Mobility, Woerden, The Netherlands The research gained insight into a broad variety of issues: the most prominent problems regarding migration and AIDS from the perspective of migrant associations and health providers; the needs for (European) support to develop appropriate responses; the perception of the role of AIDS & Mobility in this field, etc. The epidemiological data presented in this study give a clear indication that the AIDS epidemic is far from over, if we talk about migrants and ethnic minorities in Europe. The evaluation of the work of AIDS & Mobility in the previous years indicate that – even after many years of operation – there is still a great need for practical support of professionals working in the field of migration and AIDS, e.g. through the development of appropriate prevention tools, training and the stimulation of exchange. At the same time, there is a great need for lobbying and the improvement of the legal situation in Europe regarding the access to care. The information and data gathered in the framework of the research are very suitable for scientific papers to be submitted in the future and for presentations at conferences. The report of the research project –...
