Vacation Guidelines. Employees will start to accrue vacation on a per pay period basis effective with their hire date, but the hours are not available for use until the pay period containing their 90th day of employment. Acquisition hours must be used prior to accessing newly accrued time as a Genesis employee. All paid hours, with the exception of overtime hours, will be utilized for the purposes of measuring vacation accrual.

Vacation Guidelines. The following guidelines are established to assist in the scheduling of vacations for BargainingUnit Employees. Prime time vacation slots will be established between June and September each year and during the Christmas period (December to January of the following year). No employee will be permitted to split an anniversary year's vacation entitlement into two prime times until all employees have made their first choice. Employees must indicate their order of choices on their vacation applications. Vacations will be scheduled based on company continuous service and order of choices and vacations, which are due to be completed during a given calendar year, must be scheduled. Also, extended vacations will not be granted during prime times except when it does not interfere with other employees' selections for regularvacation. Employees will be permitted to split an anniversary year's vacation three (3) times. All vacation slots will start on a Monday. All vacations will be scheduled in multiples of days whenever there is sufficient vacation to allow such scheduling. However, employees with days vacation entitlement may schedule a five-day period before or after their day period. Vacations may be scheduled to commence seven (7) calendar days prior to the employee's anniversary date. Employees who schedule within the seven day periodwill be treated as if the anniversarydate were reached with respect to selection priority, vacation pay and vacation benefits. All of the previous year's outstanding vacation must be started prior to the employee's anniversary date and will have to be scheduled at the time the employee is submitting vacation application. Request forms must clearly indicate if vacation being scheduled is previous or present year's vacation entitlement and whether it is regular or extended vacation. Employees will designate on their request forms how they wish to have vacation pay and/or vacation travel processed. Employees must schedule their vacation by December 1st of each year. If a vacant slot is still available following posting of the vacation schedule, an employee may apply for this slot within days of the initial vacation schedule having been posted. Should a slot remain open after the 30-day period, such slot may be filled subject to operating requirements and with the approvalof Manager. Vacation Guidelines. Extended tour nurses shall be allowed to take vacation entitlement units of not less than one (1) extended tour. For extended tour nurses such vacation requests, other for exceptional circumstances must be received by the Head Nurse no less than two (2) weeks advance of the day on which the schedule for the unit is posted. Such requests will be given every reasonable consideration subject to the responsibility of the Hospital to operate the institution in an efficient manner. Vacations shall be granted in accordance quotas established by the Hospital from with vacation time to time, which quotas shall not be unduly restrictive. Where extended tours exist in a nursing unit or where a combination of extended tours and normal tours exist in the same unit, either party may terminate this arrangement upon at least four (4) weeks' written notice to the other. Where eighty percent (80%) of the nurses in a particular nursing unit have indicated by secret ballot that they wish to return to a schedule consisting only of tours, they shall be permitted to do so. Where a combination of extended tours and tours exist in the same unit, understood that the ratio of extended tours and normal tours shall be maintained unless otherwise mutually agreed.

Whenever this occurs, as much advance notice as possible will be given in writing. However, in all instances, the officer requesting will be advised prior to leaving work on the last duty shift before requested vacation date. All regular scheduled days, i.e., long-change, etc., in conjunction with an employee’s approved vacation and floating holidays will normally be considered part of that employee’s scheduled vacation. This applies to mandatory overtime, E squad assignments. It does not apply to: Approved vacation for less than an employee’s normally workday, i.e., less than 12 hours for a 12-hour shift, and less than 8 hours for E squad; Volunteer overtime, E squad assignments. NOTE: Vacation request slips turned in to squad supervision after assignment of mandatory overtime may be approved provided xxxxxxx and contractual vacation requirements allow; however, the mandatory overtime assignment will remain in effect as assigned. Medical Appointments: Officers are encouraged to schedule medical appointments during non-working hours. The granting of PTB for medical appointments will be reviewed and authorized on a case-by-case basis. The granting of PTB for medical appointments does not negate a review of current attendance.
