Common use of Trip Clause in Contracts

Trip. TRANSPORTATION 1. For the purpose of this section of this Master Negotiated Agreement trip transportation is defined as extra school trips, such as athletic events, field trips, class activities, and club activities involving more students than are legally able to be in transported in school vans for which transportation is required outside the North Central School District. Buses will be used and driven by the bus drivers employed by the North Central School District. 2. A van will be used for any field trip involving nine (9) passengers for which transportation is required outside the North Central School District. School owned vans and buses will be used and may be driven by the activity advisor, coach, or staff member upon completion of the necessary state certification. The activity advisor or coach shall not receive compensation for driving the van. If the activity advisor, coach, or a staff member is not state certified to drive the van or bus, the bus driver sign-up procedure of the Master Negotiated Agreement will take precedence. 3. Only support staff employed as bus drivers by the North Central Board of Education shall drive buses for trips, and Pre-School transportation. If no support staff employed as bus drivers by North Central Local Schools are available, then sub protocol will be followed. 1. All extra trip tickets and sport trip sheets will be posted for a period of ten (10) days and shall have the date and time of posting marked on them. All sporting events shall be posted by season. The fall sports season shall be posted no later than August 7. Drivers will be notified when postings are up. Any sporting events prior to the first Monday of August will be covered under summer trip procedures. 2. Drivers will be responsible for checking the sporting events and extra trip tickets. Rescheduled events or events which become known within seventy-two (72) hours (such as tournament events) shall be exempt from the posting requirement and offered by way of the seniority call list protocol. 3. The ten-day posting shall expire at the end of the 10 (ten) posting days. However, the list will identify what trips remain unfilled and will remain posted until all routes are filled. The sheet may be modified as appropriate throughout the school year by the administration as positions are filled. After the first ten (10) days of posting, the open trips may be filled on a first come basis. At the initial workday meeting, the busing supervisor will establish the mode for notification of bus drivers. Bus drivers will be contacted through the established mode of notification of an unfilled trip. Bus drivers will have 30 minutes to respond to the administrator. The most senior bus driver who responds will be awarded the trip. If there is no regular driver available, the responsible administrator must contact drivers on the sub list. If a regular bus driver and substitute are not available, then a bus supervisor/certified staff member will have the option of driving a bus. If the trip remains unfilled, the responsible administrator will assign the event based on a rotation of the seniority list. The lowest seniority driver will be assigned to the first trip. The next trip assignment will be assigned to the second lowest seniority. Following trip assignments move up the seniority list in a similar fashion with each successive trip. An assigned trip list will be posted in the bus garage with dates of last assigned trip posted beside driver’s name. If a driver is unable to drive for a trip for which he/she is assigned, the driver is responsible for finding their own replacement and notifying the transportation supervisor of the change in driver. 4. Bumping by seniority will be permitted within the following limits: a. Bumping will be allowed for five calendar days after posting. 1. No bumping will be allowed within three calendar days prior to the event. 2. The driver will mark the date and the time he/she signs for the event. 5. In the event trip transportation is canceled without prior notification being given to the driver and the driver shows up for the trip, such driver shall be paid one (1) hour at the driver’s regular rate. 6. When trip transportation is driven outside normal school hours, the Board shall provide drivers with a contact location, for assistance in breakdown situations. 7. When a driver takes an extra trip that causes him/her to miss his/her regular route, he/she will be docked for the regular route. 8. In the event that trip transportation conflicts with a driver's regular bus run, the driver may not be able to take that run instead of the regular run unless the Supervisor can find a sub on the sub list. 9. The rate of pay for trip transportation shall be the drivers regular rate or $20.00 per hour whichever is greater one (1) hour being the minimum pay. Any overnight trip will be paid at the rate of $100.00 a day plus the trip hourly rate for drive time. 10. Bus drivers will not be required to serve as chaperones but are responsible while transporting students on trips. 11. The drivers must immediately report driving related traffic or criminal offenses to the Transportation Supervisor. 12. Thy hybrid bus driver/custodial position shall not have bidding or bumping rights concerning trips, routes, or reduction in force rights in bus driver or custodial positions.
