Thermal Insulation of Ductwork. All air conditioned ductwork other than in air conditioned areas and all supply air conditioning ductwork shall be thermally insulated. All necessary surface preparation and painting shall be completed before the insulation is applied. Thermal insulation shall be rigid glass fibre. The insulation shall have a maximum thermal conductivity of 0.04 W/m2 deg.C and shall be in accordance with the provisions of ASHRAE. Insulation on external ducts shall be not less than 50mm thick and on internal ducts not less than 25mm thick. A vapour seal shall be provided and shall continue around the end termination’s of insulation, damper shaft covers and access doors in order to preserve the integrity of the vapour barrier. Access doors shall be formed with flanged faces flush with the surface of the insulation and complete with recessed insulated covers not less than 300 x 300mm clear internal openings. Dampers and damper shafts shall be complete with insulated covers arranged to maintain the vapour barrier. All external insulation and vapour seals shall be contained with a suitable weatherproof membrane which shall be to robust standards and unaffected by external conditions.
