Teacher Assignments. A. All teachers shall be given written tentative notice of their building assignments, room assignments, class and/or subject assignments, for the forthcoming year not later than the last teacher work day of the school year (in those cases where no change in assignment is planned, the teacher will be notified in a generic statement to that effect.) If the administration is unable to fill said assignment on a volunteer basis, they retain the right to assign said duties. These involuntary assignments will be rotated on a fair and equitable basis. No teacher shall be required to assume such an assignment for more than the remainder of the then current school year without his/her approval. Any other extra duty assignments, excluding coaching assignments which are unacceptable to the teacher should be reported to the building supervisor and if it is possible to rotate that duty it should be treated in the same manner as the aforementioned assignments in Article X, C.

Teacher Assignments. A. 11.1 For the purposes of this Article XI, the term "transfer" shall mean any voluntary or involuntary change of the school or teaching discipline to which the teacher is assigned.
11.2 The Committee and the Association recognize that some involuntary transfers of teachers is unavoidable, but they also understand that frequent transfers can be disruptive to the educational process.
11.3 All teachers assignments shall be given written tentative notice made known in writing by June 1. These assignments are not to be changed without due notification of their building assignmentsthe teacher involved and a conference with the Principal if so requested by the teacher. Notice will include the school to which the teacher will be assigned, room assignmentsthe grade(s) and/or subject(s) to be taught.
11.4 A permanent vacancy exists when there is established any new or additional position in the bargaining unit, class when there is an opening in an existing position because an employee leaves that position at the conclusion of a school year, or when an employee notifies the Superintendent in writing during the summer of a resignation to occur prior to the commencement of the next school year. All permanent vacancies shall be made known to all teachers in the system, and the permanent vacancy shall be filled by promotions and transfers within the system as much as possible. As used herein, the term "position" shall include teaching positions as well as extracurricular assignments that are listed in this contract.
11.5 When a vacancy occurs during the school year, it shall be considered to be a "temporary vacancy" and will be filled on a temporary basis for the remainder of the school year. Temporary vacancies are not required to be posted in accordance with paragraph 11.6 herein. If the temporary vacancy exists for the subsequent school year, it will be considered to be a permanent vacancy and will be posted and filled in accordance with paragraph 11.6.
11.6 Notice of all permanent vacancies shall be posted and advertised by the end of the school year in each building. A copy of the posting shall also be sent to the Association President. Notices shall clearly set forth the duties and qualifications of the position and the salary range. The Committee and Association recognize that permanent vacancies occurring during the summer present difficulties for both parties. To address one another's needs, they agree on the timeliness for postings listed below: Before the close of school until August 10 - at least seven (7) days; From August 10 until the opening of school, no time period. If the position is not filled, the Committee reserves the right to post new specifications. The Association President would be notified of this in writing.
11.7 Teachers who desire a change in grade and/or subject assignments, assignment for the forthcoming following school year or who desire to transfer to another building for the following school year, shall file a written request of such desire with the Superintendent no later than March 15 of the preceding year. Such requests shall include the grade and/or subject to which the teacher desires to be assigned or the school to which the teacher desires to be transferred. As soon as practical, and normally not later than the last teacher work day close of the school year (in those cases where no change in assignment is plannedyear, the Superintendent shall notify the teacher will be notified in a generic statement to that effect.)

The requests shall contain the same information set forth in 11.7, but must also contain information regarding phone numbers and addresses for contacting the teachers should they not be reachable at home. The Superintendent shall make every reasonable effort to contact the teachers, but shall not be unreasonably deniedheld liable if he/she cannot reach them.
11.9 Sometimes "out of the ordinary" opportunities become available to teachers that do not constitute a "vacancy in a position" as defined in this Article XI. In Examples of "out of the case ordinary" opportunities may include an advisor, teacher, coach, or other supervisory function, not listed in this contract, that becomes available due to grants, special programs, or staff initiatives. Although these "opportunities" do not have to be posted pursuant to paragraph 11.6, the parties agree that such opportunities should be made known to the faculty in general. When such an opportunity exists, a notice will be posted. The notice will include information such as the following: a brief description of an the opportunity and it's goals; the number of people to be involved; the qualifications required to participate; details about dates, times, length of commitment; contact person; pay, if any; other relevant information as necessary.
11.10 When a reduction in force in the bargaining unit is determined by the Superintendent to be necessary, volunteers will be given consideration. Denial of the request of a volunteer is not grievable.
11.11 Notice of any involuntary transfer or assignment change necessitated shall be given to teachers as soon as practical; and not later than June 1 except in cases of emergency.
11.12 When involuntary transfers and involuntary reassignments are necessary for the good of the system, teachers will be reassigned in accordance with the criteria of certification, and qualifications. If qualifications are relatively equal, length of service shall apply. Transfers and reassignments are not grievable unless determined by an emergencyarbitrator to be arbitrary and capricious.
11.13 An involuntary transfer or reassignment shall be made only after a meeting between the teacher involved and the principal, at which time the teacher shall be notified as soon as possibleof the reason therefore. If In the change is unacceptable event that a teacher objects to the transfer or reassignment at this meeting, upon request of the teacher, the Superintendent shall meet with him/her. The teacher shall be permitted to resign immediately with no penalty and shall be given a favorable written recommendation.
C. Teacher Assignments. A. All teachers 3.03.1 The administration shall notify each teacher, in writing, of his/her tentative schedule for the coming year prior to the last full week of school. The master schedule shall be given written available to teachers one week prior to the start of the school year. The administration shall make the tentative notice schedule available to teachers before it is made available to students.
3.03.2 Notification shall include subjects to be taught, number of their building assigned periods and, where possible, co-curricular activity assignments. The administration may modify or change the schedule after notification, room assignmentswhen change may be necessitated by staffing, class and/or subject assignmentsenrollment or other changes in the conditions, for which existed at the forthcoming year time of notification. The teacher shall be notified of such modification or change. If a teacher objects to the change, the teacher may consult with the administration concerning the anticipated change. Agreement on the part of the teacher regarding any schedule change is not later than mandatory, but highly desirable. Teachers shall be notified of the last teacher work day students then assigned to them on the Institute Day preceding the start of the school year (in those cases where no change in assignment is plannedand the final day of first semester. Upon request, the teacher will be notified in a generic statement to that effect.)

If the administration is unable to fill said assignment on a volunteer basis, they retain the right to assign said duties. These involuntary assignments will be rotated on a fair and equitable basis. 3.03.3 No teacher shall be required to assume accept an extra pay or unpaid assignment against his/her wishes, except in situations where all teachers who are qualified, in the opinion of the building principal, for this position have refused the extra pay or unpaid assignment in
3.03.4 When possible, a teacher's assignment shall include no more than two preparations, provided, however, this shall not be deemed to deny a teacher the opportunity to teach more than two preparations, if the teacher so desires. When a teacher requests more than three preparations, such an assignment for should not cause other teachers to unwillingly be assigned more than three preparations. A preparation consists of either a single ability level or a single subject area.
3.03.5 Every effort should be made to assign a teacher subjects he/she is legally qualified to teach. No teacher will be required to teach in a subject area in which he/she is not legally qualified.
3.03.6 Students with special needs will be designated as such on a class roster. It is the remainder case manager’s responsibility to provide teachers with the student’s accommodation information in a timely manner. The case manager will consult with teachers in meeting the needs of special needs students.
3.03.7 The administration will make an effort to see that students who fail a class will not be assigned to the then current school year without same teacher the following semester unless the administration determines such assignment is unavoidable.
3.03.8 The Athletic Trainer receives eighth hour as his/her approvalpreparation period per his or her request. Any other extra duty assignmentsThe lead teacher, excluding coaching activities coordinator and sports coordinator assignments which are unacceptable to made by the teacher should be reported to the building supervisor and if it is possible to rotate that duty it should be treated Board in the same manner as the aforementioned its sole discretion but unlike teaching assignments in Article X, C.are accepted on a voluntary basis.
