No duty belts, ballistic vests, flip-flops or water shoes will be worn during the swim test. (C) The swim test will consist of the following non-timed segments: 1. When instructed to commence the test, candidates will enter the pool fully clothed as described above; candidates will then jump into the pool and swim a distance of twenty-five (25) meters, performing any swimming style from a dead stop without aid (no pushing off). 2. When instructed to commence the test, candidates will enter the pool fully clothed as described above; candidates will then jump into the pool and demonstrate their ability to extricate oneself up and out of the water utilizing the pool’s edge. 3. Once candidates resurface, the evaluator will then toss a personal flotation device (PFD) to the candidate. The candidate must be able to tread water or use whatever method to stay afloat until successfully donning the PFD without assistance. After donning the PFD, candidates must then make their way to the pool’s edge and extricate themselves out of the water.
