Common use of Supplementary Maternity/Parental Benefit Clause in Contracts

Supplementary Maternity/Parental Benefit. Notwithstanding the provisions contained in the previous clause, this plan provides that an employee on leave of absence as set out above and who is in receipt of Employment Insurance Maternity or Parental Benefits pursuant to the Employment Insurance Act, shall be paid a Supplementary Employment Benefit. That benefit will be equivalent to the difference between 75% of the employee’s regular earnings and the sum of the weekly Employment Insurance Maternity or Parental Benefit and any other earnings. Such payment shall commence following completion of the Employment Insurance waiting period and receipt by the employer of the employee’s Employment Insurance cheque stub as proof that the employee is in receipt of such benefits to a maximum of twenty (20) weeks. The employee’s regular weekly earnings shall be determined by multiplying their hourly rate on their last day worked, prior to the commencement of the leave, times their normal weekly hours.
