Summer Driving. A second route selection will occur in the first full week of June. New routes will go into effect at the beginning of theExtended Year Calendar”. A notice shall be posted by the employer from May 1 through May 15 for employees to indicate a desire to have the summer off or to time share. A. There is no express or implied guarantee that summer driving shall be available on either a part time or full time basis. If more drivers want to work than there are available routes, bidding will proceed by seniority until all routes are filled. Lower seniority drivers will then be considered unassigned. Unassigned drivers are not laid off and are not eligible for unemployment compensation. They continue to be employed by the district and to be eligible for such driving opportunities as their seniority entitles them. They continue to be eligible for fringe benefits. Prior to utilizing substitutes during the summer, management shall attempt to schedule unassigned drivers and transportation assistants to meet the needs of the district. B. If there are more routes available than drivers that want to work during the summer, the following process will be used to assign employees to the unfilled positions. 1. Substitutes will be used before forcing regular employees. 2. If job share requests have been received, they shall be denied in reverse seniority order ranked by using the higher seniority driver of each team. The drivers whose job share requests have been denied shall have the option of taking the summer off or working a full route. This process would continue until all routes were filled. Transportation Assistants would follow the same process. 3. If there are still unfilled routes, drivers/transportation assistants who have requested the summer off will be required to work in reverse seniority order. C. Transportation assistant shall be governed by provisions which are the equivalent of A. and B. above. D. After route selection, unassigned drivers/TAs shall sign a posted form indicating a desire to work. E. The employer shall attempt to assign open routes no later than one (1) hour prior to starting time. F. In the event there are more transportation assistant positions available than assistants who want to work, drivers may bid on the open positions in order of seniority. Summer Driving. Any regular Driver or Chauffeur that accepts optional driving work during the summer as defined above will be paid their regular hourly rate of pay from the school year when the work was performed. The Driver or Chauffeur will be eligible for a minimum of one and a half (1 ½) hours for time worked in the morning (A.M.) and one and a half (1 ½) hours for time worked in the afternoon (P.M.) or actual time spent, whichever is greater.
Summer Driving. A. Thirty (30) calendar days prior to the last day of the Lake Orion school year, the Employer shall post a sign-up sheet for summer work. On seniority basis drivers shall have their choice of one (1) program only. Summer runs will start after the last day of Lake Orion's school calendar.
Summer Driving. All summer routes and field trips will be available to those drivers according to seniority who request, in writing, to work during the summer months. All summer field trips received by the Transportation Coordinator or an Assistant Transportation Coordinator prior to the end of the school year will be offered to drivers by the last day of school. As to other summer field trips they will be assigned by seniority, and drivers who have signed up for summer work will be given until the end of the workday in which they were called to either accept or reject the trips.
Summer Driving. (Summer is defined to be the first day after the last student day of a school year through the last day before the first student day of the next school year.) Any regular driver interested in summer driving must sign up by the end of the regular school year. All postings signed for will be awarded from the list of regular drivers based on seniority first and then on accumulated hours. It is the driver’s responsibility to monitor postings and sign accordingly if they want to be called (they will not be called if they have not signed a posting). When runs are posted and no regular driver from the summer driving list signs that posting the transportation manager may call a substitute driver that has made themself available to cover that posting or a regular driver that did not make themself available on the summer driving list.

However, whenever summer driving is available, qualified drivers from the bargaining unit who indicate their availability may be used and will have first priority. Assignment will be according to Article 17, Section I. B. When field trips become available during the summer months, drivers, who indicate their availability as per A above, shall be assigned to drive those trips on a seniority rotation basis. The summer seniority rotation list shall continue from the last day of school. C. Drivers who are not assigned to a regular summer school run will have first priority to bid on summer field trips. D. All summer driving runs will be posted by the end of the school year at one (1) time but no later than June 15. E. Drivers voluntarily working as a Transportation Assistant will be paid at the top Transportation Assistant pay step. F. The process used for selecting Transportation Assistants for summer runs will be as follows: • Post the time; • Award first to Transportation Assistants by reviewing of seniority; • Award second to bus drivers in order of seniority; • Award third to sub bus drivers, and • If no volunteers, assign finally to Transportation Assistants in reverse order of seniority.
Summer Driving. Trips during the summer period shall be given to the drivers with the greatest amount of seniority, on a rotation basis, who are qualified and have the then present ability and physical fitness to satisfactorily perform the assignments without training. Summer routes will be assigned annually by seniority as they become available with no more than one route per summer assigned to one driver. If a route becomes available after a driver has accepted a route, that driver has the option of choosing the new route.

All summer driving runs will be posted by the end of the school year at one (1) time but no later than June 15. F. Drivers voluntarily working as a transportation assistant will be paid at the top transportation assistant pay step.
Summer Driving. Bus drivers who are assigned a bus route during the summer months will not earn fringe benefits such as sick and personal days. Such drivers will, however, be entitled to use accrued sick and/or personal time.
