PEOPLE Deduction. The employer agrees to deduct from the wages of any employee who is a member of the Union, a PEOPLE deduction as provided for in a written authorization. Such an authorization must be executed by the employee and may be revoked by the employee at any time by giving written notice to both the employer and the Union. The employer agrees to remit any deduction made pursuant to this provision promptly to the Union together with an itemized statement showing the name of each employee from whose pay such deductions have been made and the amount deducted during the period covered by the remittance.

The contribution amount will be certified to the District by the Union. Monies deducted shall be remitted to the Union within (10) days of the date they are deducted. Payments shall be made to the Treasurer of PEOPLE and transmitted to: AFSCME, AFL-CIO P.O. Box 65334 Washington, D.C. 20035 The payment shall be accompanied by an alphabetical list of the names of those employees for whom a deduction was made and the amount of each deduction. This list must be separate and apart from the list of employees who had fair share fees deducted. An employee shall have the right to revoke such authorization at any time by giving written notice to the District and the Union. The District’s obligation to make deductions shall terminate automatically upon receipt of revocation of authorization or upon termination of employment or transfer to a job classification outside the bargaining unit. All People contributions shall be made as a deduction separate from the dues and Fair Share Fee deductions.

The Union will provide all necessary forms and make all contacts with the Employees to notify them of this optional deduction and will assume responsibility for compliance with applicable state and federal laws regarding notification and authorization of deductions.
PEOPLE Deduction. All deductions, except Union dues, will be made over a twelve (12) month period beginning with the first payday of each contract year. Additions or deletions in payroll deductions shall occur on the payroll following notification made to the Treasurer. Notification must be made ten (10) days prior to payroll. Annuity companies must have prior Board approval. The Board agrees to deduct OAPSE state dues and local dues from an employee’s salary or wages and remit the same to the OAPSE State Treasurer upon receipt of the employee’s voluntary authorization. Such authorization shall be irrevocable, regardless of whether the employee remains a member of the Union or not, for the one-year period stipulated in the employee’s dues authorization application. Revocations of dues authorization shall be in accordance with the employee dues authorization agreement. If any member of the Union resigns, retires or is terminated prior to the payment of his/her total dues, the ex-employee is hereby responsible for payment of any deficiency and the Union hereby agree to hold harmless the Board of Education for any delinquent dues amount due and owing. If the U.S. Supreme Court declares that Fair Share Fee is legal and Constitutional, the parties will include the Fair Share Fee Article into this Agreement, as it existed during the 2018-2019 school year.

The District’s obligation to make deductions shall terminate automatically upon receipt of revocation of authorization or upon termination of employment or transfer to a job classification outside the bargaining unit. All PEOPLE contributions shall be made as a deduction separate from the dues deductions.
PEOPLE Deduction. Unit members shall be allowed to have monies deducted, either once per year or per pay period, from their salary for P.E.O.P.L.E. (Public Employees Organized to Promote Legislative Equality). Such deductions shall be effectuated through an approved authorization form signed by the unit member.
