The Buyer must complete approximately 117 acres of slashing in shelterwood cuts in stands 03, 07, 17, 23, and 34. Slashing refers to felling of all trees 2 inches in diameter and larger not marked for sale, excluding marked leave trees and trees within a designated Stream Side Management Zone (SMZ). All parts of slashed trees must be limbed so that no part is higher than 4ft above the ground. Trees cut during slashing can be removed and utilized as forest products or left in the xxxxx at the buyer’s discretion. At the Timber Sale Administrator’s discretion, cut-offs and other cull material may be cleanly piled along one edge of the landing or other pre-determined location for post-sale firewood cutting. A minimum of 80% of marked trees 12 inches DBH class and larger must be felled.

Any material transported to a log landing must be removed from the sale area or scattered throughout the stand. Skidders may access SMZ’s to access marked timber in such a manner that minimizes soil disturbances. All logging activity shall comply with standards found in the 2020 Missouri Watershed Protection Practices guide regarding harvesting within SMZ’s. Dead trees designated for harvest that may possibly have loose hanging bark cannot be cute between June 1 and July 31 dates. Trees designated for harvest that have cracks or large stem fractures where bats may possibly colonize cannot be cut between June 1 and July 31 dates. In the event that any tree is found that has bats, all logging activities within 150 feet of that finding must discontinue and the MDC sale administer must be contacted immediately. If necessary, amendments to the contract will follow such finding. The Conservation Area encompassed by this timber sale is certified to Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) Forest Management Standard. The purchaser is responsible for maintaining SFI® Chain of Custody requirements after forest products leave the sale area. This sale contains cutting date restrictions due to endangered bat species hibernacula buffer or cave buffer. In addition to Article V. 5.18, the buyer will conduct no felling activity during the periods of March 15- April 30 and September 15 – October 31. Other harvesting activities are permitted during this time except as prohibited in Article V. 5.18.

Few trees will be marked within SMZs, but those that are should be hand felled and cabled out. All landings will be mulched with straw and seeded with wheat, oats, or annual rye and ladino clover at rates determined by the Timber Sale Administrator.
