Common use of Reassignment to an Officer Classification Clause in Contracts

Reassignment to an Officer Classification. When, because of a reduction in work force, it is necessary to assign a sergeant to the officer classification, the determination shall be based on the later Department seniority date when two or more employees are equal in their qualifications to retain the higher position. The displaced employee will be placed in the classification in which the least senior employee is doing work that the displaced employee can do. The displaced employee shall retain department seniority. However, no employee shall be placed in a higher-paid classification because they are displaced.
