Firing Site (FS Sample Clauses

Firing Site (FS. The Firing Sites Area is fenced and encompasses about 450 acres in the western portion of the plant approximately one mile from the nearest installation boundary and is characterized by hilly terrain. Firing Site Area structures are designated as FS-1 to FS-14. The Firing Site Area is used on a routine basis to perform static testing of warheads produced at the IAAAP. The Firing Site has been in operation since the 1940s and was used for AEC activities from 1948 to 1974. A Supplemental RI (reference, 2002) was conducted by the Army at the Firing Site in 2002. The Supplemental RI evaluated only non-radiological COCs, and concluded that additional data was required to define the nature and extent of contamination. Additional data is needed at this site to evaluate potential radiological contamination, and to define the extent of contamination. DU has been detected in previous sampling at FS-6 and at FS-12.
