Conferences and Workshops. The parties to this Agreement recognize that attendance at conferences, workshops and other gatherings of a similar nature are beneficial to the Employee's work-related activities and that attendance and participation in such gatherings generally serve to enhance the performance and professional development of the Employee. An Employee will be given as much notice as is practicable of approval or denial of a request for attendance at such gatherings. (a) The Hospital recognizes the need for a Hospital Orientation Program of such duration, as it may deem appropriate taking into consideration the needs of the Hospital and the Employees involved. (b) Both the Hospital and the Union recognize their joint responsibility and commitment to provide, and to participate in, in-service education. The Union supports the principle of its members' responsibility for their own professional development and the Hospital will endeavour to provide programs related to the requirements of the Hospital. Available programs will be publicized and the Hospital will endeavour to provide Employees with opportunities to attend such programs during their regularly scheduled working hours, subject to operational requirements of the Hospital.
