The parties to this Agreement recognize that attendance at scientific conferences, workshops and other gatherings of a similar nature constitutes an integral part of the employee’s research activities and that attendance and participation in such gatherings is recognized as an element in the conduct of scientific research and development and in the performance of the duties of the Medical Physicist. An Employee will be given as much notice as is practicable of approval or denial of a request for attendance at such gatherings.
Conferences and Workshops. It is the intent of the City to provide employees the opportunity to attend conferences and workshops to enhance their ability to perform their work. The City will pay expenses as provided by the current City travel policy.

(a) The Hospital recognizes the need for a Hospital Orientation Program of such duration, as it may deem appropriate taking into consideration the needs of the Hospital and the Employees involved.
(b) Both the Hospital and the Union recognize their joint responsibility and commitment to provide, and to participate in, in-service education. The Union supports the principle of its members' responsibility for their own professional development and the Hospital will endeavour to provide programs related to the requirements of the Hospital. Available programs will be publicized and the Hospital will endeavour to provide Employees with opportunities to attend such programs during their regularly scheduled working hours, subject to operational requirements of the Hospital.
Conferences and Workshops. 12.01 The parties to this Agreement recognize that attendance at scientific or industry focused conferences, workshops and other gatherings of a similar nature constitutes an integral part of the employee’s work related activities and that attendance and participation in such gatherings is recognized as an element in the conduct of scientific research, contribution to technology, and industry support. Where an employee intends to request overtime compensation for attendance at a conference, workshop or other gathering of a similar nature, the employee shall request such overtime compensation when requesting approval to attend the conference, workshop or other gathering. An employee will be given as much notice as is practicable of approval or disapproval of a request for attendance at such gatherings.
Conferences and Workshops. The number of unit members from a department attending given workshops or conferences will be as follows:
1. In a department or grade level where there are three, or less than three members, only one unit member from that department will be allowed to be absent from school during the time school is in session for the purpose of attendance at a conference or workshop. Exception to this may be made if, in the opinion of the Superintendent, the attendance at a particular conference or workshop merits more than one representative.
2. In a department or grade level where the members in the department number four or more, two members of such a department may be absent from regularly scheduled school sessions for such attendance.
3. Legally allowable expenses for the conferences and workshops, such as room, meals, mileage, registration, and other expenses shall be paid for in accordance with district policy.

(a) Leaves of Absence without pay for the purpose of furthering career development may be granted on written application by the Employee to the Director Cancer Services. Requests for such leave will not be unreasonably withheld.
(b) Leaves of Absence without loss of regular earnings from regularly scheduled hours for the purpose of attending short courses, workshops or seminars to further professional development may be granted at the discretion of the Hospital upon written application to the Director Cancer Services.
(c) Written application for Travel and Education expenses in accordance with the corporate Hospital policy (Employee Business Expense Reimbursement FIN 8.5) must be submitted to the Director Cancer Services and must be approved in writing prior to the conference date. No expenses will be paid unless prior approval has been granted.
Conferences and Workshops. 23.01 Secretaries will be granted released time with pay for attending conferences.
a. The Board shall pay Sixty-Five Dollars ($65.00) of the expenses for five (5) representatives of the bargaining unit designated by the Union to attend two (2) educational secretarial workshops.
b. Request for deviation of the above shall be made to the Human Resources Officer or designee.
23.02 A secretary may be afforded the opportunity to attending training, conferences, and professional development with the approval of their supervisor. The LAES planning committee will have input on topics for the District’s annual secretary PD plan.
Conferences and Workshops. 1. Professional development outside of the district must be pre-approved by the appropriate supervisor and will be reimbursed in accordance with Board policy.
2. GESSA employees will be reimbursed by the Board for expenses incurred at conferences or workshops as per current Board policy.
3. GESSA employees will not be paid for attendance outside of the regularly scheduled work week at professional development activities unless they are mandated by the Superintendent or designee. GESSA employees will not receive additional pay for professional development occurring during their regular work hours or for travel time.
4. With the approval of their supervisor and for good cause, a GESSA employee may be excused from a mandated professional development activity that is scheduled for a non-workday, provided the activity may be rescheduled within sixty (60) calendar days of the activity that the GESSA employee cannot attend.
