Classification for Accounting Purposes a) Net Assets With Donor Restrictions – Represent net assets which are subject to donor-imposed restrictions whose use is restricted by time and/or purpose. A portion of the Foundation’s net assets with donor restrictions is subject to donor-imposed restrictions that require the Foundation to use or expend the gifts as specified, based on purpose or passage of time. When donor restrictions expire, that is, when a purpose restriction is fulfilled or a time restriction ends, such net assets are reclassified to be assets without donor restrictions and are reported on the statement of activities as net assets released from restrictions. Another portion of net assets with donor restrictions stipulates that the corpus of the gifts be maintained in perpetuity, but allows for the expenditure of net investment income and gains earned on the corpus for either specified or unspecified purposes.
