Backfilling. A backfilling opportunity arises when a permanent employee is out on leave for 180 calendar days or longer. The purpose of this Section is to provide opportunities for employees to temporarily increase their number of hours of work, temporarily increase their wages and/or acquire experience in a different job assignment. 16.6.1 When the District determines to fill a position held by an employee who is, or will be, absent from work for a period of time anticipated by the District to last 180 calendar days or longer, the District shall post a vacancy. 16.6.2 Prior to seeking outside applicants for such backfilling opportunities, the District shall offer the opportunity to employees by posting the opportunity in all work locations for not less than five (5) working days. 16.6.3 In the event qualified employees, including those on the 16.6.4 For the purposes of this Section, employees accepting backfilling assignments will be considered long term substitute employees in that they shall not accrue seniority in the class/position they are backfilling for the duration of the assignment. The employee backfilling shall receive the pay rate at the range of the position in which they are filling at their current step. Employees shall have appropriately prorated benefits based on the hours of the backfill position, including leaves and other terms and conditions of employment during the assignment because they are CSEA Classified Bargaining Unit members. Upon conclusion of the backfilling assignment, the employee shall be returned to his/her regular position, and shall receive seniority credit for the backfilling assignment as if the service had been performed in 16.6.5 At the conclusion of the originally-stated term of the absence, the temporarily-vacant position will be a) re-filled by the incumbent who had been absent; b) extended by virtue of extenuating circumstances, in which case the position may continue to be backfilled; c) eliminated or modified in response to changing district need; or d) if the incumbent has left District employment, the position shall be declared vacant. Posting of the vacant position shall be done in accordance with the process for regular district vacancies.
Backfilling. The purpose of this section is to provide opportunities for employees to temporarily increase their number of hours of work, temporarily increase their wages, and/or acquire experience in a different job assignment. 4.11.1 When the District determines to fill a position held by an employee who is absent from work for a period of time known by the District to last sixty (60) working days or longer, the District shall post the temporarily vacant position promptly, but in no event later than ten (10) working days after the District has received notification and/or confirmation of the duration of absence. 4.11.2 The District will use the procedure outlined in “Promotion 4.4” in filling the temporary vacancy. 4.11.3 Any employee filling such temporary positions shall be returned to their regular position after the return of the employee on leave.
Backfilling i. Backfill shall be non-clumped native material from the excavated hole free of roots, rocks 2 inches or greater in diameter, subsoil, debris, weeds, and foreign matter. These materials shall be disposed of at the Proposer’s expense. Backfilling shall begin as soon as tree is placed in hole. This is particularly critical for bare root trees to prevent roots from drying out. Proposer shall firm the soil near the base, so the root ball is adequately supported. Proposer shall gently work backfill around and beneath the roots, so no air pockets remain. For bare root trees or trees with voids from removed nursery stakes, backfill shall be worked in between the roots by hand to avoid damaging roots. Proposer shall continue to monitor the trunk for straightness throughout the backfill process and alternate adding backfill material and tamping lightly until backfill material is level with the root flare. Any voids, including those from nursery stakes removed, shall be filled with soil. ii. Final soil level shall match grade of surrounding ground. If planted in a concrete cut-out or planting strip less than 4 feet wide, final soil level shall match the soil grade level of below the adjacent sidewalk, but never more than 4 inches lower than the sidewalk surface grade. iii. Proposer is responsible to supply additional backfill material if needed, to meet grade. If multiple trees are planted at one site, excess soil from one excavation may be used to backfill other tree holes at that site. Additional material shall be topsoil and consist of friable surface soil reasonably free of grass, roots, weeds, sticks, stones, or other foreign materials. The topsoil shall consist of ▇▇▇▇▇ loam, with soil particles within the following percentages: clay; 0-25; silt; 25-50; sand; 50-70; decomposed organic matter; 5-10. iv. Any excess backfill materials shall be incorporated into berms (see Basin Construction below) to a reasonable extent. Any remaining excess soil and rocks 2 inches and greater in diameter shall be removed from the site and disposed of in a proper manner by Proposer at the Proposer’s expense.
Backfilling. The following provisions shall apply to the backfilling of the Works:
Backfilling. (i) Excavated material used as backfilling to excavations or completed structures shall be free from rubbish, vegetation, clods and lumps and shall be approved by the Engineer. The approved materials shall be placed in layers, not exceeding 225 mm in depth before compaction and shall be compacted to a dry density not less than ninety-five percent of the maximum dry density obtained by the test in Part VII of I.S. 2720 or to such higher density as is specified hereinafter. During compaction the backfill shall have a uniform moisture content equal to or a little above the optimum moisture content recorded in the I.S.
Backfilling. The purpose of this section is to provided opportunities for employees to temporarily increase their number of hours of work, temporarily increase their wages and/or acquire experience in a different job assignment. 8.5.1 When the District determines to fill a position held by an employee who is temporarily absent from work for a period of time known by the District to last 30 working days or more, prior to seeking an outside applicant (substitute) the District shall post the temporary vacancy at all work sites for not less than six working days. During the posting period the District may fill the temporary vacancy at its discretion. The District shall select an existing District employee applicant to backfill if the Superintendent or his/her designee determines that the employee has a reasonable chance of succeeding in the position. 8.5.2 The following are exempt from the backfilling obligations described in 8.5 through 8.5.6 and may be filled at the District’s discretion: (a) any temporary vacancy created after the first backfilling of the initial temporary vacancy, and (b) absences anticipated to last less than 30 working days.
Backfilling a. Furnish equipment, labor, and when necessary material required for backfilling the pipe line trenches according to Section 207, and as follows: 1) When testing for visual leaks in open trenches, do not backfill until testing is complete and leaks are eliminated. 2) When retaining pavement adjacent to trenches, replace removed pavement with the same or better material when approved in accordance with the appropriate Section for the pavement type replaced. 3) Place backfill on subgrades free of mud, frost, snow, or ice. 4) Place and compact bedding course on trench bottoms and where indicated. Shape the bedding course to provide continuous support for bells, joints, and barrels of pipes and for joints, fittings, and bodies of conduits/pipes. 5) Backfill shall include Class I or Class II Soils as defined in Section 810 or suitable material that conforms with DWM’s Specification Section 02225. 6) Backfill shall be placed in two stages: first, side fill to a height of 12 inches (300 mm) above the top of pipe; second, overfill to former surface grade. Side fill shall consist of granular material laid in 6-inch (150 mm) layers each consolidated by mechanical tamping and controlled addition of moisture, to a density of 95% as determined by as determined by the Standard ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ test (AASHTO T-99 Method D) or GDT 67. Overfill shall be layered and consolidated to match the entrenched material in cohesion and compaction. The top 12 inches (300 mm) shall be compacted to 100% of specified density. Consolidation by saturation or ponding shall not be permitted. 7) Soil Moisture Control: Uniformly moisten and aerate subgrade and each subsequent fill or backfill soil layer before compaction to within 2% of optimum moisture content. Remove and
Backfilling. A. Support pipe and conduit during placement and compaction of bedding fill.
Backfilling. All timber work and form work shall be removed after their necessity ceases and trash of any sort shall be cleaned out from the excavation. All space between foundation masonry or concrete and the sides of excavation must be refilled to the original surface with approved materials, in layers not exceeding 300mm in thickness, watered and rammed to compact with a recommended dry density of 95% and testing shall be done by ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇’▇ test. The filling shall be done after concrete or masonry is fully set and done in such a way as not to cause undue thrust on any part of the structure. Where suitable excavated material is to be used for refilling, it shall be brought from the place where it was temporarily deposited and used in refilling.
Backfilling. Backfilling will not commence until a representative from the Public Works Department has performed an inspection. Any portion of the side sewer covered prior to inspection will be uncovered at the permit holder’s expense within two (2) days after notice to do so. Trenches will be carefully backfilled by tamping sand or other approved material to a depth of six (6) inches above the pipe to avoid damaging the pipe. All backfill material between the public sewer and the property line must be approved by the Director of Public Works, water- settled or mechanically tamped in six-inch layers to minimize settlement. Any settlement occurring within twelve months of backfilling will be corrected at the expense of the permit holder.
