Common use of Backfilling Clause in Contracts

Backfilling. Backfilling will not commence until a representative from the Public Works Department has performed an inspection. Any portion of the side sewer covered prior to inspection will be uncovered at the permit holder’s expense within two (2) days after notice to do so. Trenches will be carefully backfilled by tamping sand or other approved material to a depth of six (6) inches above the pipe to avoid damaging the pipe. All backfill material between the public sewer and the property line must be approved by the Director of Public Works, water- settled or mechanically tamped in six-inch layers to minimize settlement. Any settlement occurring within twelve months of backfilling will be corrected at the expense of the permit holder.
