Oxidation definition

Oxidation means a reaction in which the atoms in an element lose electrons and the valence of the element is correspondingly increased.
Oxidation means the process of changing the chemical structure of water contaminants by either increasing the number of oxygen atoms or reducing the number of electrons of the contaminant or other chemical reaction, which allows the contaminant to be more readily removed from the water or made more soluble in the water. It is the “chemical cleaning” of pool water. Oxidation can be achieved by common disinfectants (e.g., chlorine, bromine), secondary disinfection/sanitation systems (e.g. ozone) and oxidizers (e.g. potassium monopersulfate).
Oxidation means either thermal oxidation or catalytic oxidation.

Examples of Oxidation in a sentence

  • Oxidation catalyst means an add-on catalytic control device that controls CO and VOC by oxidation.

  • All mercury analysis must be conducted in accordance with USEPA Method 1631, Determination of Mercury in Water by Oxidation, Purge and Trap, and Cold Vapor Fluorescence Spectrometry.

  • All mercury analysis shall be conducted in accordance with EPA Method 1631, Determination of Mercury in Water by Oxidation, Purge and Trap, and Cold Vapor Fluorescence Spectrometry.

  • Procedure (SOP) given from user departments are to be adopted for all operations and maintenance — e.g. tank cleaning, FT plant maintenance, Sewage maintenance, Oxidation pond maintenance, operation of substation, transformer maintenance etc.

Oxidation means a reaction in which the atoms in an element lose electrons and the valence of the element is correspondingly increased. An example of an oxidation reaction is the combustion of CH4 in air to form CO2 and water.
Oxidation means we are removing electrons from the compound, which forces it to break apart.
Oxidation means the process of changing the chemical structure of water contaminants to allow the contaminant to be more readily removed from the water or made more soluble in the water.
Oxidation means an increase in the oxidation state of the iron in the heme of any or all of the subunits making up the hemoglobin tetramer from the ferrous (Fe+2) to the ferric form (Fe+3). Autooxidation is a slow oxidation that occurs spontaneously in the presence of oxygen. However, oxidation can be accelerated greatly by the presence of other
