Leave of Absence for Union Business. ‌ Any elected or appointed officer of the Union shall, upon request and approval of the Employer, be granted a leave of absence without pay to attend to Union business, or the leave can be granted with pay if the Union agrees to pay the cost of the substitute.

The Union shall give the Board a minimum of 5 days advance notice of any such request. An employee on such leave shall continue to receive pay and benefits provided in this Agreement. The Union shall reimburse the Board for all pay and benefits for the period of absence. 17.5 Leave of absence without pay and without loss of sick leave credits or seniority shall be granted upon request to the Board to employees elected or appointed to represent the Union at recognized Union conventions or conferences. In addition, up to twenty-five (25) days leave of absence per Agreement year shall be granted for local Union business, and such leave shall be without pay and without loss of sick leave credits or seniority. An employee on any of the foregoing leaves shall receive the pay and benefits provided in this Agreement. It is understood that not more than one (1) employee in the bargaining unit may be on such leave at the same time. Such leave, if granted, shall be for a period of one (1) calendar year from the date of appointment unless extended for a further specific period by agreement of the parties. Seniority and service shall accumulate during such leave to the maximum provided, if any, under the provisions of the Collective Agreement. It will become the responsibility of the employee for full payment, one (1) month in advance, of any applicable benefits in which the employee participating during such leave of absence. D. Unless otherwise provided by law, no Employee on leave of absence without pay shall be entitled to accrue or accumulate vacation allowance, sick leave, service credit for increments and longevity increases or other rights and benefits for the term of the Employee's leave but the Employee shall not lose seniority for the purpose of determining length of service.
Leave of Absence for Union Business. (a) Employees who are acting as full-time officers or representatives of the Union or who are hired, elected or appointed to positions representing the United Steelworkers' of America shall be granted an unpaid leave of absence to perform their duties, with the time involved considered as service with the Employer. (d) Permission for leave pursuant to this Clause 27.03 shall not be unreasonably denied by the Employer and such leave, once approved, shall not be interrupted by the Employer during the approved period of the leave except with the consent of the Employee.
Leave of Absence for Union Business. 21.1 Any employee of the Division who is an officer or member of the Union shall be granted leave of absence for Union business, provided that the aggregate of such leave for all said officers and members shall not exceed forty-five (45) working days in any calendar year and provided further that, where required, a substitute satisfactory to the Division has been secured. In computing the said forty-five (45) day period, leave of absence granted to any said officer or employee for the purpose of negotiating with the Division shall not be counted. The Division shall submit to the Union a statement covering loss of time and the Union shall reimburse the Division for same. 21.3 When, for the purpose of negotiating a collective agreement with the Division or renewal there-of, meetings with the representatives of the Union are convened during regular working hours of the Union members, the Division will grant leave, with salary, at the applicable rates set forth in Section 17.1 hereof, for not more than three (3) members of the Union attending such meetings.

Leave of Absence for Union Business. 20.1 On reasonable notice in writing and where operational requirements permit the Employer may grant a leave of absence without pay to an Employee who is elected or selected: (a) as a member of the Board of Directors of the Union for the attendance at Board meetings; (b) as a delegate to attend special conventions, conferences and/or educational programs of the Union and affiliated bodies including the National Union of Public and General Employees Canadian Labour Congress and the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour; (c) as members of standing Committees of the Union for the attendance at meetings of the standing Committees; (d) as members of the Bargaining Union negotiating committee of the Local for attendance at committee meetings: (e) as members of the Executive to attend Executive Meetings of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union and the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour; or (f) for such other Union business as may be authorized by the Union. Such leaves will not be unreasonably refused. Such leaves shall be without pay but without loss of benefits or seniority during the period of the leave. The Employer will continue the salary and benefits of an Employee, who is granted leave without pay for Union business, and will invoice the Union for the Employee’s salary and benefits. 20.2 On reasonable notice in writing and where operational requirements permit, an Employee who is seconded for a position with the Union or any body with which the Union is affiliated may be granted a leave of absence without loss of seniority and benefits during the period of the leave. Such leave shall not be unreasonably refused. The Employer will continue the salary of an Employee who is seconded without pay and will invoice the Union for the Employee’s salary and the Union shall reimburse the Employer for all pay or benefits during the period of the leave. 20.3 Leave of Absence for Full-time Union President (a) An Employee who declares their intention to offer for the position of President of the Union shall notify the Employer as soon as possible after declaring their intention to seek the office of President. (b) An Employee elected or appointed as President of the Union shall be given a leave of absence without pay for the term she is to serve up to a maximum of two (2) years.
