Uric Acid. Uric acid is a heterocyclic compound with the chemical formula C5H4N4O3 and was discovered in 1776 by the famous German pharmacist Xxxx Xxxxxxx. In humans, it is formed by the oxidation of purine nucleotides xanthine and hypoxanthine by xanthine oxidase [93]. Uric acid is a weak acid (pka1 5.4, pka2 10.3) and therefore mostly exists in its ionised form, urate, at physiological pH, while very high concentrations in the serum are associated with crystal formation which leads to gout [97]. It is a natural antioxidant and at physiological concentrations it can act as a scavenger of oxidants such as singlet oxygen, hydroxyl radical, hydrogen peroxide and organic peroxide and also as a metal chelator stabilising ascorbate [98, 99]. In addition it has been shown to scavenge air pollutants such as O3 and NO2 [73, 100]. Importantly the unpaired electron in the urate radical is highly delocalized which results in the resonance-stabilised radical [101], but can react with ascorbate to regenerate urate [99]. Several protein transporters are candidates in urate transport but URAT1 and GLUT9 are the best characterized [102]. The exact mechanism of urate transport in the RTLF has not been delineated. Its RTLF concentration is high (100-400μM) and, despite inter-individual variability, the levels are thought to be highest in the upper airways [73, 74]. Interestingly lower levels have been shown in asthmatics [103].

  • Power Factor Design Criteria (Reactive Power A wind generating plant shall maintain a power factor within the range of 0.95 leading to 0.95 lagging, measured at the Point of Interconnection as defined in this LGIA, if the ISO’s System Reliability Impact Study shows that such a requirement is necessary to ensure safety or reliability. The power factor range standards can be met using, for example without limitation, power electronics designed to supply this level of reactive capability (taking into account any limitations due to voltage level, real power output, etc.) or fixed and switched capacitors if agreed to by the Connecting Transmission Owner for the Transmission District to which the wind generating plant will be interconnected, or a combination of the two. The Developer shall not disable power factor equipment while the wind plant is in operation. Wind plants shall also be able to provide sufficient dynamic voltage support in lieu of the power system stabilizer and automatic voltage regulation at the generator excitation system if the System Reliability Impact Study shows this to be required for system safety or reliability.

  • Synchronous Generation The Interconnection Customer shall design its Small Generating Facility to maintain a composite power delivery at continuous rated power output at the Point of Interconnection at a power factor within the range of 0.95 leading to 0.95 lagging, unless the NYISO or the Transmission Owner in whose Transmission District the Small Generating Facility interconnects has established different requirements that apply to all similarly situated generators in the New York Control Area or Transmission District (as applicable) on a comparable basis, in accordance with Good Utility Practice.
