TEACHING LOADS AND ASSIGNMENTS. A. The Board has Teachers in grade levels K-4 shall have a 40 minute planning period and a 40 minute duty-free lunch each day. Teachers in grade levels 5-12 shall have a 50 minute planning period and a 30 minute duty-free lunch each day. Exempted from these provisions are guidance personnel. It is expressly understood and agreed that guidance personnel will take time from their work day for professional planning and personal exigencies; however, it is also understood that such absences shall not exceed 50 minutes per day.
B. Related arts teachers shall be provided preparation time in an amount equal to other elementary teachers. Related arts teachers shall be provided a duty free lunch period of no less than 30 minutes per day. To the right extent possible, daily preparation time shall be scheduled equally Monday through Friday. Recognizing that some staff members are assigned to determine class more than one building, the parties agree that in some cases individual schedules may need to be adjusted to accommodate building schedules and program needs. In no case will teachers be assigned a teaching load that exceeds the principles and guidelines set forth in this section A. Teachers teaching less than a full day will have preparation periods pro-rated accordingly.
C. Teachers who are shared between buildings/levels (such as band, choir, orchestra, physical education, and computers) will be paid for all hours above the agreed time as stated in Article IIIIV, Board Rights)Section C, if required by the Administration. TEACHING LOADS AND ASSIGNMENTS. A. The Board has normal weekly teaching load in the right senior and junior high school will be twenty (20) teaching periods and five (5) unassigned preparation periods.
B. The normal weekly teaching load in the elementary school will be forty (40) teaching periods and ten (10) unassigned preparation periods.
C. In addition to determine class schedules (Article IIIthe hours and periods referred to, Board Rights)each teacher will be allowed at least a consecutive 30-minute period daily for lunch, which period will be duty-free; any change to the 30-minute lunch shall be negotiated with the Association.
D. Teachers shall serve as substitutes during their preparation periods only if it is agreeable with the teacher. The normal administration shall keep an accurate accounting of all such substitutes. Any teacher load would include one who agrees to substitute during a preparation period for a teacher who is absent shall be paid at the rate of $21.40 per 76-minute period ($10.70 for a 40-minute period) or may choose to accumulate one period of personal leave time/“comp time.” Personal leave time so accumulated must be used during the current school year. At the end of each full day equal school year, the teacher shall be paid for unused hours of accumulated personal leave time at the above rate.
E. Faculty attendance at the annual Open House for elementary teachers and the annual before-school orientation night for middle/high school teachers and Parent-Teacher Conferences is required.
F. Independent Studies
1. All independent studies shall be scheduled by the high school principal with the agreement of the teacher involved.
2. Independent studies shall be given only in time to the teaching period length. The Association would be notified of possible changes subjects offered in the schedulesecondary curriculum except upon agreement between the Association and Administration. Some Requirements for the independent study shall not differ greatly from those of the reasons regular class. Only the teachers who meet applicable state and federal requirements such as Highly Qualified are eligible.
3. Teachers conducting an independent study shall be paid $500 per student per trimester, not to exceed five (5) students per teacher per trimester. In order for schedule changes could payment to be made, the length of the independent study must be more than one-half a change in the State requirements, student needs, financial hardship, etctrimester. (This list An independent study is not intended to be all inclusivea program of individualized instruction taking place outside the regular scheduled class time under the supervision of a staff member. Teachers who agree to supervise students outside of the regular class schedule for make-up study sessions or disciplinary purposes such as lunch detention which have been approved by the administration, shall be compensated at a rate of $7.50/30 minutes, plus a free lunch, or, if declining lunch, $10.00/30 minutes.
K. As a courtesy, working class schedules will be provided to the staff by June 30 when possible, but no later than August 1, prior to the school year, with the understanding that changes may occur based on late hires or fiscal or staff uncertainties.
L. IEP meetings shall be scheduled by the special education teacher at a time that is also agreeable with the primary teacher in the area of disability or primary general education teacher. Teachers who participate in IEP meetings before or after school shall be paid a stipend of $15.00. The maximum number of Dollar Bay teachers compensated at an I.E.P. is two (2).

Teachers in grades K-5 will not be required to accept positions as high school class advisors unless acceptable applicants are not forthcoming, then the administration may fill the position by appointment. Such appointment shall be on a rotating basis. All teachers shall have a duty-free lunch, the duration of which shall not be less than the lunch period provided for students in that building.
B. All teachers shall be given notice of their tentative teaching schedules for the forthcoming year by July 15. Teachers who will be affected by a change in grade assignments in the elementary school grades and by changes in subject assignment in the secondary school grades or midyear transfers will be notified and consulted by their principals prior to such change.
C. All elementary teachers shall have at least two hundred twenty-five (225) minutes per week released time to be used for preparation, provided such time may include time when their class is attending essentials classes, including but not limited to technology, art, music, recess dutyor physical education, but shall not include the time before or after classes begin or end. The This does not require the Board to provide these special classes and does not require any special classes that are missed to be made-up for any reason. Such preparation time established as provided above shall be in blocks of at least twenty- five (25) minutes duration, except for vocal recess which may be in twenty (20) minute blocks. Any shortage of prep time shall be made up scheduling preparation time coordinated through their building administrator.
D. If necessary, each elementary principal will consult with his/her teaching staff members to develop a shared recess supervision schedule and to coordinate the school schedule relative to art, music, physical education, study skillsmedia center, computersand computer lab. TEACHING LOADS AND ASSIGNMENTS. A. The Board has the right to determine class schedules (Article III, Board Rights). The normal teacher load would include one Unit employees who are assigned during their preparation period for each full (other than day-to-day equal in time substituting) shall be compensated additionally at a rate directly proportionate to the number of periods in the day divided into their daily rate. Such assignment shall be only with the approval of the unit employee and notification to the Association. Teachers whose teaching period lengthday extends beyond or starts before the regular teaching day because of teaching an extra load as above, will be paid at that same rate listed above. No additional prep time or benefits will be given, nor are they implied in any way.
B. Ancillary staff will be assigned to positions for which they are qualified according to state guidelines, except in cases of emergency or as provided by law, not to exceed one semester. F. In the event that a class exceeds the suggested maximum on Column B, the Principal and Superintendent shall meet with the Association and the teacher(s) of the class(es) involved to find an equitable solution to the problem. If another resolution cannot be reached within one week, then elementary teachers will be paid $280 per student dayper semester for all students above the overload maximum. Middle school and high school teachers will be paid $57.00 per student per class per semester. This amount will be prorated if the class is less than one semester in duration.
G. The District will maintain a list of substitutes. The list will be made known to teachers, if requested. The District reserves the right to assign substitutes to classrooms, but will attempt to fill particular teacher requests, especially for absences of longer duration.
H. All ancillary staff members shall be given notice of their tentative assignments for the forthcoming school year no later than June 1st of that year. In cases where the necessity to make changes arises after the date, the ancillary staff members affected will be notified by mail of the change as early as possible.
I. Assignment of student teachers shall be made only with a teacher’s consent.
J. The daily teaching load of those employees who are employed less than full time shall be in direct proportion to the fraction of time of employment.
K. Teachers assigned to serve as acting principal shall be relieved of regular classroom duties during absence of the principal. SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS:
L. The building administrator will normally recommend the placement of an eligible student in the appropriate regular education class. A representative teacher will be required to attend the MET and the IEPT.
1. The Board of Education and teachers agree that all students should be taught in the least restrictive environment. The responsible administrator shall make time available for the regular classroom teacher to consult with the special education staff assigned primary responsibility for the special education needs.
2. Assignment to special education programs and services shall be consistent with Administrative Rules for Special Education, Michigan State Board of Education.
3. Any member of the IEPT may request a meeting to review services.

TEACHING LOADS AND ASSIGNMENTS. A. The Board has normal classroom teaching load in the right to determine class schedules senior high school (Article III, Board Rights)grades 9-12) will be thirteen (13) teaching blocks and a minimum of two (2) unassigned preparation blocks over each three day period in the school year. The normal weekly teaching load in the elementary/middle schools (grades K-8) will be a regulation school week, with a minimum of five (5) unassigned preparation periods or their equivalent per week. Teachers will be given their tentative teaching assignments for the next year no later than June 1 of the previous year. The administration will endeavor to limit the number of various high school preparations to as few as possible. When possible, IEP/child study will be scheduled during the teacher’s regular work day. IEP/child study lasting after 3:20 p.m. shall be compensated at the rate of $25 per hour.
B. Since pupils are entitled to be taught by teachers who are working within their area of competence, teachers shall not be assigned, except temporarily for good cause, outside the scope of their teaching certificates or their major or minor field of study. If such a temporary assignment is necessary, the teacher load would include one preparation period for each full day equal in time will be given written notification as to the teaching period length.
