Shift Variance Sample Clauses
The Shift Variance clause defines how changes in work shifts, such as adjustments to start or end times, are managed within an agreement. Typically, this clause outlines the conditions under which an employer can alter scheduled shifts, the notice required to make such changes, and any limitations or employee rights related to shift modifications. Its core practical function is to provide a clear framework for handling shift changes, thereby reducing confusion and potential disputes between employers and employees regarding work schedules.
Shift Variance. (a) The District reserves the right to vary some assignments from the established basic shift (shift variance). Such shift variances shall be limited to three (3) hours before or after the normal start times for the established basic shifts and shall be made only when needed by the District to provide adequate public service.
Shift Variance. (a) An employee who has a genuine need to vary his or her regular work shift must submit a written request to the District with as much advance notice as possible. However, if the need is unforeseeable, the employee shall contact the District as soon as possible but not less than thirty (30) minutes prior to the start of his or her shift and shall provide the documentation for said request as soon as practicable upon his or her return to work. The District may grant an employee’s request for shift variance, provided the request does not adversely affect the productivity of the department.
(b) An employee normally working an eight and one-half (8 ½) hour day who is granted a shift variance shall work an eight and one-half (8 ½) hour day regardless of the “varied” start time.

Shift Variance. Employer may adjust the scheduled shift start times and shift types provided for in this Agreement subject the mutual agreement of Employer and the Local 598 Business Manager.
