Severe Encephalitis. Severe inflammation of brain substance (cerebral hemisphere, brainstem or cerebellum) and resulting in permanent neurological deficit which must be documented for at least 6 weeks. This diagnosis must be certified by a consultant neurologist, and supported by any confirmatory diagnostic tests. Encephalitis caused by HIV infection is excluded. General Clauses:
