Service Control Points/Databases. 9.5.1 Definition ---------- 9.5.1.1 Databases are the Network Elements that provide the functionality for storage of, access to, and manipulation of information required to offer a particular service and/or capability. Databases include, but are not limited to: Local Number Portability, LIDB, Toll Free Number Database, Automatic Location Identification/Data Management System, Calling Name Database, access to Service Creation Environment and Service Management System (SCE/SMS) application databases and Directory Assistance. 9.5.2 A Service Control Point (SCP) is a specific type of Database functionality deployed in a Signaling System 7 (SS7) network that executes service application logic in response to SS7 queries sent to it by a switching system also connected to the SS7 network. Service Management Systems provide operational interfaces to allow for provisioning, administration and maintenance of subscriber data and service application data stored in SCPs.
