Common use of School Nurses Clause in Contracts

School Nurses. 1. All school nurses shall be placed on the nurses’ eight (8) hour workday salary schedule, shall continue to be eligible for advanced study salary credit, and shall continue to be entitled to participate in all fringe benefits, personnel benefits, and other relevant programs available to teachers. 2. The established “students to nurse” ratio (1500:1) for assignment of a school nurse(s) at a school(s) shall be continued. 3. Schools having heavy health room needs and utilization by students (both secondary and elementary schools) should continue to have additional nursing service assigned as available. 4. School nurses shall be assigned only professional and health-related duties in the school(s) to which they are assigned, except in emergencies involving health or safety. 5. School nurses shall be informed of their school(s) assignment(s) for the following school year either by the final day of the regular school year or during the summer by mail. School nurses shall continue not to be reassigned or transferred for arbitrary or capricious reasons. 6. The Board will continue to reimburse school nurses assigned to service a cluster of schools for transportation costs incurred when traveling from one assignment to another. 7. School nurses may either elect direct deposit or may continue to have their paychecks mailed to their homes. a. The seniority ranking of school nurses shall continue to be compiled on a basis that combines school nurses who have achieved their certification as school nurse practitioners with those who have not. b. In applying the provisions of Article 31, System-Wide Seniority and Layoff-Recall Provisions, Section 1., Subsection a., certified school nurses currently employed by the Board shall be given system seniority credit back to their first date of hire into any new or otherwise vacant position on a full time basis as a certificated school nurse. System seniority credit shall not be extended for such initial employment time, if it was spent substituting for another nurse who was on leave. This provision shall not apply to salary schedule credit, previous salary, or any other terms or conditions of employment except system seniority under Article 31, Section 1., Subsection a. 9. Efforts will be made to provide an extension telephone for each nurse office or school health room that nurses utilize in any school to which they are assigned. 10. School nurses shall continue to be provided an uninterrupted lunch period, except in emergencies involving health or safety. 11. Increment credit, with a requirement that there be fifteen (15) hours per credit (the same as for teachers), shall be provided to school nurses and to dental hygienists for after school, evening or weekend attendance at Board-approved one-day and half-day seminars and workshops relating to their professional duties. 12. School nurses shall be eligible for paid-released time to attend conferences and workshops in accordance with the provisions of Article 35, Professional Leave.

School Nurses. 1A. It is acknowledged that effective and professional utilization of school nurses frequently requires a facility which will permit quiet, uninterrupted, confidential interchange. All To that end principals shall make every reasonable effort to provide appropriate space for school nurses. B. School nurses shall have access to telephones in a private area in both schools and regional offices, unless circumstances make such access unreasonable. C. Areas which are utilized for the administration of medication shall have a water source. D. Records which are maintained by school nurses shall be placed on kept in locked files. E. The Board shall make every effort to provide computer and clerical assistance to the nurses’ eight nurses performing the duties and responsibilities associated with the KidMed program. F. School nurses shall have three (8) hour workday salary schedule, 3) hours per week designated for planning/staff development purposes. G. Newly employed school nurses shall continue to be eligible included in regional or district-wide orientation meetings for advanced study salary credit, and shall continue to be entitled to participate in all fringe benefits, personnel benefits, and other relevant programs available to newly employed teachers. 2. The established “students to nurse” ratio (1500:1) for assignment of a school nurse(s) at a school(s) H. Inservice training shall be continuedconducted at appropriate periodic intervals, but not less than semi-annually, for all newly employed school nurses, as determined by the School Health Services Coordinator. 3. Schools having heavy health room needs and utilization by students (both secondary and elementary schools) should continue to have additional nursing service assigned as available. 4I. The Board shall provide Hepatitis B vaccinations for all school nurses. School nurses shall be assigned only professional and health-related duties in have the school(s) to which they are assigned, except in emergencies involving health option of being vaccinated with the Hepatitis B vaccine or safetysigning a waiver of such right. 5. School nurses K. The Board shall establish a RN substitute pool for the purpose of providing and continuing services in the event a school nurse is absent from work. L. Nurses shall have access to a computer with an internet connection. M. A committee made up of an equal number of persons to be appointed by the Superintendent, or designee, and Federation President, or designee, shall be eligible established to seek funding to provide the equipment necessary for paid-released time assessment, including but not limited to adult blood pressure cuff, large adult blood pressure cuff, child size blood pressure cuff, thermometer, ten (10) foot eye chart, near vision eye chart, otoscope and stethoscope. N. 1. Nurses who are members of the Executive Board and/or Committee of the Louisiana School Nurses Organization (LSNO) shall be allowed up to a maximum of two (2) professional leave days per school year to attend conferences and workshops meetings/conferences. Additional days may be approved at the discretion of the supervisor. Any professional leave as specified in accordance with the provisions of Article 35, Professional Leave97 shall be included in this total.
