Protective Custody. In addition to the above, officers may take a child into protective custody under the following state guidelines, established by the Texas Family Code: 1. Upon discovery of a child in a situation of danger to the child's physical health or safety, when the sole purpose is to deliver the child without delay to the parent or guardian; 2. When there is an immediate danger to the physical health or safety ofthe child, such as child and/or sexual abuse. 3. Status offenses are considered non-criminal behavior, including: a. Juveniles, who are listed as runaway, should be released by police to a parent, guardian, or responsible adult. Ifthis is not possible, the officer will transport the juvenile to the ▇▇▇▇▇▇ Police Department. Upon completing the necessary offense/incident report(s), the juvenile shall be transported to the Collin County Juvenile Detention Center. b. Students, who are truant from school, will be returned to the school and released to the principal or his designee. Ifthis is not possible, the student must be released by police to a parent, guardian, or responsible adult.
