Notification and Eligibility. The Chief shall have the authority to determine which unit or units, if any, are in need of any particular training course or seminar. The Chief shall determine who may be excused from work to attend such courses pursuant to the following guidelines:
a) Education qualifications as may be required for admittance to a course.
b) Special technical training as may be required for admittance to a course.
c) The applicability of such course to the officer's present assignment.
d) Any established prerequisites or criteria that are mandated by the school, funding agency or the Department. If the foregoing factors are all equal, seniority within the applicable Unit will prevail in determining officers to be sent to each such course or seminar. An officer may attend only two (2) conferences or courses outside of the metropolitan area per calendar year unless waived by the Unified Government.
Notification and Eligibility. During the City of Mesa’s Subdivision Technical Review and Central Plans Review processes, all required main line extensions are identified that are eligible for a Private Line Agreement. The developer is notified of these requirements via staff’s written review comments. The developer must confirm eligibility by means of a formal written request to the office of the City of Mesa’s Development and Sustainability Department’s Development Planning Specialist.

The Department shall post on bulletin boards located at all fire stations announcements of all courses to be given which are either compulsory for a segment of the staff, are prerequisites to promotion or improved assignment, or may be optional for the purpose of improving the professional standing of Firefighters in the Department. All eligible staf members shall have an equal opportunity to bid for the prerequisite and optional courses. In the event that there are more bids than openings available, the senior personnel qualified under objective standards, will be given the preference subj ect to any special requirements by the institution giving the course. However, if there are a limited number of bids available and it can be shown by objective standards that the course or training will be useful to a limited group or rank, then the bidding may be restricted to that group or rank. Similarly, if the objective usefulness is related to an equal distribution amongst the platoons, then the bidding may be limited to an equal number amongst each platoon. 2010-2014 CBA Local 28 IAFF The Chief must meet with the Union regarding the determination of demonstrable objection standards or objective usefulness which is used to limit bidding herein to a particular group, rank or distribution. Nothing shall prohibit the Union from filing a grievance if it does not agree with the standards determined by the Chief.
