ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES. Supervise and monitor students relating to before, during and after school activities as directed by the building administrator(s). • Assist the classroom teacher in supervising students under special circumstances such as field trips, individual, small group and whole group instruction when the teacher must temporarily leave the classroom for an emergency. • Assist with learning activities with students under the supervision of a certified teacher. • Perform tasks such as typing, laminating, bookbinding, recording, inventory, etc. as they relate to classroom instruction. It should be noted that Paraprofessionals funded under At-Risk or Title funds will be limited in job responsibilities based on grant funding regulations. • Assist the classroom teacher in the planning of instructional activities. • Plan, prepare and develop various teaching aids such as bibliographies, charts and graphs. • Present subject matter to students utilizing variety of methods and techniques such as lecture, discussion and/or supervised role playing. • Assist in preparing, administering and grading examinations. • Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts. • All other duties associated with the position of Instructional Paraprofessional. WORKING ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception. The position will require work with computers and other equipment, involving repetitive hand movement and close vision. The work environment(s) for this position will consist of several different settings, including school building(s), school grounds, and alternate locations, as dictated by the school schedule. Work is performed indoors and outside. (The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE • Associates degree or equivalent preferred (highly qualified status required for Title I buildings), minimum high school diploma. • Ability to effectively relate with students, staff and parents. • Ability to assist with the instruction of students. Relevant subject area proficiency/expertise/knowledge preferred (i.e., reading, writing, mathematics, language arts, etc.). • Ability to lift and maneuver 50 pounds, unaided. • Meet requirements set forth in applicable state and federal laws. • Ability to manage students in individual, small group and whole group situations. • Must exhibit a pleasant personality and positive attitude toward working with students, administration, staff and community members. • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
