Criteria for Submission. The date of a teacher’s return from leave covered under this section shall coincide with the beginning of a marking period, semester, or school year, and the date of return will be specified by the teacher before the leave commences. Teachers will submit leave requests on or before February 1 of the school year preceding the leave whenever possible, but no later than 120 calendar days prior to the leave commencement date if the reason for leave is not determinable until after February 1 of the school year preceding the leave. In extenuating circumstances, this notice requirement may be waived at the sole discretion of the Superintendent.
