ARTICLE JOB SHARING. Job Sharing is an arrangement between one (1) full time employee ("Owner") and one (1) part time employee or one full-time employee ("Sharer"), the Union and the employer whereby two (2) employees within the bargaining unit share the hours of what would otherwise be one (1) full-time position. Any position that is vacated as a result of a Job Share shall be posted in accordance with the collective agreement. In the event of a layoff, the job share position shall be considered one full-time position for the purposes of bumping. Job Sharing arrangements shall be voluntary for all participants. Employees in a job sharing arrangement must possess the necessary qualifications for the position. Job Sharing requests with regard to full-time positions shall be made in writing to the Vice-president of Human and Organizational Development. Job Sharing requests with regard to full-time positions shall be considered on an individual basis. It is understood that the Hospital has the sole right to determine if two (2) employees shall share any full-time position and retains the sole right to determine the required ratio of full-time to part-time employees. Such rights shall not be exercised in an unreasonable or manner. A Letter of Understanding will be executed by the Hospital, Union and involved employees for all Job Sharing arrangements. All Job Sharers shall be treated as regular part-time employees and shall be covered by the part-time provisions of the Agreement unless expressly amended herein. Total hours worked by the Job Sharers shall equal one full-time position (1 The division of the hours on the schedule shall be determined by mutual agreement between the two (2) employees and the Manager. The Manager will resolve any disputes between the employees with respect to scheduling. Job Sharers will be offered additional shifts pursuant to Article The above schedules shall conform to the scheduling provisions for a full-time position pursuant to the Collective Agreement. Each Job Sharer may exchange shifts with her partner, as well as with other qualified employees within the same classification. Both job sharers shall be entitled to work additional part-time shifts. However, it is understood and agreed that the first obligation is to work the required hours of the job share position, regardless if a shift was accepted in another department. The Job Sharers involved will have the right to determine which partner works on scheduled paid holidays and job sharers shall only be required to work the number of paid holidays as per Article of the collective agreement. If there is no mutual agreement between the two job sharers, the manager shall have the sole discretion to schedule paid holidays, where necessary. The Owner shall have the first right to selection of holidays worked. Seniority is not applicable as it relates to this paragraph. Where applicable, the Owner of the Job Share shall have the right to choice of times. Seniority is not applicable as it relates to this paragraph.

Where the Job Sharing arrangements arise out of the filling of a vacant full-time position, both Job Sharing positions shall be covered by posted and selection based on the criteria set out the Collective Agreement. An incumbent full-time nurse wishing to share her position may do so without having her half of the position posted; however, the other half of the job shared position shall be posted and the selection based on the criteria set out the Collective Agreement. Where two full-time nurses wish to share a full-time position, they will choose which of the two positions will be shared and the remaining position will be filled on a temporary basis for the duration of the trial six (6) month period of the Job Sharing agreement. If one of the Job Sharers leaves the arrangement, her position will be posted. if there no successful applicant to the position, the shared position shall revert to a full-time position. The remaining nurse will have the option of continuing in the full-time position or another part-time provisions position. If she does not continue full-time, the position shall be posted according to the Collective Agreement. If after a six (6) month period the Hospital wishes to a Job Sharing arrangement, may do so upon advance written notification sixty (60) days to the employees. If this occurs, the position will revert to a full-time position and both nurses may apply and seniority will decide. The unsuccessful nurse will have the option of remaining as regular part-time. If after a six (6) month period, the Agreement unless expressly amended hereinnurses who take part in Job Sharing wish to the arrangement, they may do so upon advance written notification sixty (60) days to the Hospital. When this occurs, the nurses will have the option of remaining as regular part-time. The full-time position will then be posted as per the full- time Collective Agreement.
