APPRENTICES/TRAINEES. 25.1 9.01 - Apprentices/Trainees Trainees
(a) Where the Company determines a need to create or fill an apprenticeship/trainee opportunity it shall create a local working group to support the apprentice/trainee program at that location. The Company shall then post notice of an apprenticeship/trainee opportunity. Employees wishing to be considered for such opportunities shall submit a written application.
(b) Appointment shall be entitled to all based upon a reasonable assessment of the applicable rates applicants’ experience, qualifications, and conditions of employment prescribed by this Agreementsuitability. Seniority shall be the governing factor if the applicants are relatively equal.
25.2 For clarification(c) The Company is not required to retain an apprentice/ trainee in its employ as a tradesperson following completion of their apprentice/trainee program.
(d) Employees selected as an apprentice/trainee under this article shall be converted to regular employee status and, if retained after completing their apprenticeship/ training program, shall maintain their regular status in addition to the rates classification in APPENDIX 1, Trainees are entitled to receive full Daily Travel, which they apprenticed/trained.
(e) An apprentice/▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, BEWTwho was employed by the Company prior to being selected and who is not successful during their apprenticeship/training program, CIPQor who is not retained as a tradesperson after completing their apprenticeship/training program, Superannuation shall be reinstated to their former status of employment and any other entitlements have the ability to access the Workforce Adjustment provisions of article 12. That provision will not include the ability to access the severance provisions of article 12, unless by mutual agreement of the parties.
(f) Apprentices shall be provided with training in accordance with this document. Such entitlements shall not be paid at rates applicable to Apprenticesthe Provincial apprenticeship requirements.
25.3 Training arrangements for (g) Apprentices/Trainees shall be as provided in the Building and Construction General On-site Award 2020.
25.4 Apprentices/Trainees trainees shall be entitled to education leave in accordance with article 25, when they attend required off-site classroom training pursuant to their apprenticeship or training program, provided that:
1. The Company shall only be required to top-up the employee’s Employment Insurance (EI) payments so that their normal straight time apprentice pay is maintained while attending during those times when the employee would otherwise be scheduled to work at straight time (no overtime). Employees attending required off-site classroom training pursuant to their apprenticeship or training program must apply for available EI benefits in order to have their normal straight time pay maintained under this article.
2. The Company shall not be required to maintain the pay of any apprentice/trainee who is repeating required classroom training that the employee previously failed to successfully complete. The Company shall ensure that the apprentice/trainee is given reasonable time off to repeat the required classroom training.
(h) The Company shall advance the cost of tuition, books and other training materials for apprentices/trainees who attend off-site classroom training pursuant to apprenticeship/training programs. Upon successful completion of the apprentice/training the advance shall be forgiven.
(i) An apprentice/trainee shall be paid the daily fares and travel allowance whilst attending training.
25.5 The Employer shall be responsible for meeting all costs associated with Apprenticeship/Traineeship training, including any student registration, tuition fee or other course costs.
25.6 During the first year of an Apprenticeship, tools to the minimum retail value of $600.00 shall be supplied by the Employer within a period of three months after the expiry following percentages of the probationary period applicable trades’ rate, provided that the employee continues to maintain the required standards of performance, attendance, and/or successfully completes all required classroom training. Apprentices/trainees who are not continuing to meet the required standards of performance and/or who fail required classroom training shall not be eligible to continue through the wage progression until such time as they meet such standards or within a period successfully complete such training: Time in Months Rate as % of six Trades Rate 0 - 6 months from the date of commencement of the employment, whichever first occurs.
25.7 During the second and subsequent years (or part of a year) in apprenticeship 60% 7 – 12 months in apprenticeship 65% 13-18 months in apprenticeship 70% 19-24 months in apprenticeship 75% 25-30 months in apprenticeship 80% 31-36 months in apprenticeship 85% 37-41 months in apprenticeship 90% 42 months to end of apprenticeship tools to the retail value of $600.00 shall be supplied by the Employer within a period of three months from the commencement date of each such year (or part of a year) of the indentured Apprenticeship.
25.8 Where an Apprentice has entered a Competency Based Training Agreement, the provision of tools will be on the following basis:
(a) During the term of Apprenticeship, an Employer shall, in respect of each level of the apprenticeship program, supply the Apprentice with tools of trade, to a minimum retail value of $600.00.
(b) The supply of tools of trade for each level of the program shall be linked to the successful achievement of competencies or, where appropriate, the demonstration of approved levels of progression towards the achievement of competencies as prescribed by the relevant National Training Package or in the relevant Award.
(c) Supply of tools will occur no later than three (3) months after the expiry of the probationary period or within a period of six (6) months from the date of commencement of the employment, whichever first occurs, and no later than three (3) months into subsequent levels of the apprenticeship.
(d) Apprentices employed under part-time or school based arrangements shall be entitled to a supply of tools consistent with the requirements as outlined in clause 25.6 and clause 25.7 above.95%
