Floaters serve as back-up staff in order to assure continuous coverage and/or meet security needs and who function as follows: 1. Serve as back-up staff where needed to support regular staff; 2. Fill in, in emergency situations; 3. May be called to work overtime while off duty; 4. Assisting staff with work responsibilities.

Emergency days as described in the Employment Standards Act. Employees provides reasonable evidence in the circumstances that they are entitled to the leave, if requested. In the event of multiple consecutive statutory holidays, if any employee cannot verify their absence with a reason acceptable to the company, such employee will forfeit holiday pay equal to the number of days absent. If a designated paid holiday falls within a seniority employees’ annual vacation or bereavement leave, that day will be added onto his vacation, or if mutually agreed upon, it may be taken at a later date or the seniority employee may receive another days pay in lieu of additional time off. Seniority employees eligible for payment of a designated paid holiday will be paid on the basis of their applicable normal hourly rate, multiplied by their regular hours of work on such day. For holidays falling on a Friday, the holiday shall be observed on the Thursday for those employees working a four (4) ten (10) hour shift schedule. If any of the designated paid holidays falls on a Saturday it will be observed on a Friday and if a designated paid holiday falls on a Sunday it will be observed on a Monday.

Floaters shall be arranged upon the mutual agreement of the employee and the supervisor but shall be so scheduled as to not interfere with required business operations. One of the three (3) floater days may only be taken outside of the seasonal window however all floater days may be scheduled in conjunction with a weekend. Employees who are hired after June 30th shall only be entitled to one floater day during his/her first year of employment. All Employees who work fifteen (15) days during the thirty (30) day period prior to being laid off before a General Holiday or who are recalled from a lay-off within fifteen (15) days subsequent to a General Holiday shall receive pay for such holiday, based on eight (8) hours of their applicable rate.
