In the field of Opera and Dance, the Platform members define an Emerging Artist as a performer (singer, dancer…) or other creative artist (stage director, choreographer, conductor, designer of sets, lighting or costumes…) who is currently either: ● Studying in post-graduate programme ● Engaged by an opera house with their studio or young artists programme ● Has had their first professional engagement as a solo performer or member of creative team (freelancer or fixed contract) within the last 5 years.
Emerging Artist: Have completed at least one (1) year as an artist and are currently creating an independent elemental yet functional body of work.
OPEN Emerging Artist Award: $1,500 Highly Commended Award: $700 Commended Award: $500 Under 18 Awards: $200 & $100 Under12 Awards: $100 & $50 Wollombi Prize: $500 (local subject matter or local artist) Flora Award $500 (subject matter) Photographic Award $300 Performance Art Award $200 - entry via short video (max 3 minutes) People's Choice Awards: $250, $100 (announced at close of exhibition) The WVAC commission on sale of works exhibited shall be 25% of the gross sale price.
Proceeds will this year again come from auction sales of art – including the sale of the top three works in the Mazda Emerging Artist Awards.
