Voluntary Lay Clause Samples

The Voluntary Lay clause allows a party, typically a shipowner or charterer, to voluntarily declare a period during which cargo operations can commence before the agreed laycan period. In practice, this means that if a vessel arrives early at the loading port, the charterer may choose to start loading before the official laydays begin, with the time counting as laytime. This clause provides flexibility in cargo operations, helping to minimize delays and optimize port efficiency by allowing parties to take advantage of early readiness without breaching the contract terms.
