VDT OPERATORS Sample Clauses

The "VDT OPERATORS" clause defines the rules and requirements for employees who operate Video Display Terminals (VDTs) in the workplace. It typically outlines standards for workstation ergonomics, rest breaks, and training to ensure the health and safety of VDT operators. For example, it may require employers to provide adjustable chairs, regular eye examinations, or scheduled breaks to reduce eye strain and repetitive stress injuries. The core function of this clause is to protect employees from health risks associated with prolonged VDT use and to ensure a safe and compliant working environment.
VDT OPERATORS. Employees who spend more than eighty percent (80%) of their work time at VDT screens shall be required to have no less than a bi-annual eye examination by an ophthalmologist or optometrist and submit proof of same to the Human Resources Manager. Current employees in this status who have not had such an examination within the past twenty-four (24) months shall be required to do so within sixty (60) days of the effective date of this Agreement. MainePERS shall pay the cost of any portion of these examinations not payable by another third party funding source, upon presentation of appropriate documentation to the Human Resources Manager. All new employees who will be spending eighty percent (80%) of their work time at VDT screens must also obtain an eye examination within sixty (60) days of hire, with the same payment provisions specified above. Any employee who is required as a result of such eye examination to purchase new or replacement lenses, contact lenses, and/or computer glasses will be reimbursed up to five hundred dollars ($500) no more than biannually of the cost by MainePERS upon presentation of satisfactory proof of the medical necessity of the purchase and proof of the purchase itself. The reimbursement period will run from January 1 to December 31 of any calendar year beginning January 1, 2019.
VDT OPERATORS. A full-time employee who operates a Video Display Terminal full time who is pregnant and is experiencing significant discomfort at her work station may request reassignment to other work. Such request shall be granted in full or in part when there is comparable work available, and in accordance with the needs of the employee's department. When it is not feasible to accommodate the employee, she shall be entitled to a leave without pay upon a doctor's certification that such leave is necessary. Under most circumstances, she will be returned to the same or similar position. Grievances concerning leaves of absence will be arbitrable; grievances concerning assignment will be processed exclusively under Article 8, Section 15. Full-time employees who operate VDTs on a full time basis shall be eligible for the cost of eyeglasses each year should there be a change in vision requiring new glasses. The rate at which the employee will be reimbursed is as described in Article 39.
VDT OPERATORS. The District shall designate a committee to include representatives of SEIU/FPSU to review the status of occupational safety and health issues related to the use of visual display terminals. This committee shall begin to meet within one month of ratification and approval of this contract.
