Common use of UNION SERVICE Clause in Contracts

UNION SERVICE. (a) The Company may allow time off work without pay for any employee who is serving on a Union committee for purposes of discussions with the Company, or serving as a Union delegate to any conference or function, provided all requests for time off are reasonable and do not interfere with the proper operation of the business. (b) No employee who acts within the scope of this sub-section shall lose his job or be discriminated against for so acting. (c) Upon written request by the Union and if reasonable notice is given and provided such leave does not interfere with the proper operation of the business, the Company may grant leave of absence to employees without pay for Union business. Should an employee by appointed, selected or elected to work full time for the Union, the Company will grant a leave of absence not to exceed one (1) year. During a leave of absence under this section, an employee will maintain and accumulate seniority.
