Common use of Union Activity Clause in Contracts

Union Activity. No employee shall be discriminated against for Union membership or activity, but stewards and other Union representatives shall be subject to the same rules and working conditions as other employees. Stewards shall be responsible for the investigation of grievances and the representation of area employees in disciplinary matters. When a supervisor interviews an employee, the employee may have a xxxxxxx present to the extent required by law. Stewards may also need to conduct authorized Union activity. Prior to engaging in any authorized activity, the xxxxxxx shall seek permission from the xxxxxxx'x immediate supervisor. If a xxxxxxx needs to conduct such authorized activity in another work area, the xxxxxxx shall seek permission from the xxxxxxx'x immediate supervisor and the supervisor of the work area the xxxxxxx wishes to enter. Permission shall not be unreasonably refused. Prior to engaging in any union activity during work hours, including visiting the Union Office, a bargaining unit member shall seek permission from his or her supervisor prior to leaving the work area. Such permission shall be requested as far in advance as possible and shall not be unreasonably refused. The bargaining unit member will only use as much time as necessary to complete the Union business and the supervisor shall not impose a specified time limit unless operationally necessary.

Union Activity. Employees, stewards, and other representatives may conduct Union activity or Union business on paid time on Employer premises only to the extent authorized by specific provisions of this Agreement. Prior to engaging in any Union activity, the employee, xxxxxxx and any other representative shall contact the appropriate supervisor. If a xxxxxxx needs to conduct such Union activity in a work area other than that of the xxxxxxx, the xxxxxxx shall contact the xxxxxxx’x immediate supervisor and the supervisor of the work area the xxxxxxx wishes to enter. An employee, xxxxxxx or other representative and the supervisor shall mutually agree in advance to the time and place for Union activities pursuant to this Article. A supervisor may deny a request to conduct such activities because of operational needs, however, these requests shall not be unreasonably denied. Supervisors shall maintain a record of the hours during which Union activities occur. Stewards shall notify the appropriate supervisor when they have completed authorized Union activities. Union Activity. No employee 7.1 The following sections outline the duties and responsibilities of stewards in performing their functions as recognized union representatives. In those cases which cannot be resolved otherwise, designated union stewards shall be discriminated against granted reasonable time off, without loss of pay, to investigate and settle grievances at Step 1 and above, when such investigation is required for Union membership or activitythe prompt and effective settlement of the grievance in question. Work loss must be minimized.
